Our Alcohol Numbers Before/After

Thought I would share our alcohol situation with everyone, in case it helps. We had about 160 guests. Take out about 30 of those for vendors, kids and non drinkers. From there, we have a big mix from light drinkers to very heavy drinkers. Here were our stats: ETA: Broken down costs of each category:...

Jomabago - No. We went to a local brew store, paid them for the kit and a charge for bottling in-house. We mixed a couple packets and they kept the brew/mix going for several weeks and do whatever needs to be done. Then, when it is ready, I sent in labels for them to print. At my bachelorette party, we bottled, corked and labeled the wine. It actually came out to be cheaper than buying most wines and was more fun because we got to make it (sampled beforehand) and make a personalized label! Our friends all brew at home (beer and wine), but we did it in store so we didn't bother anyone with a "job" to do. Bottling was really fun in the store, though. They have industrial equipment that made it super easy.

That sounds really cool! But I am surprised that it was cheaper that way.

Jomabago - We were surprised to. It came to under $6/bottle after all the taxes and costs for the bottles, corks, etc. We bought the second cheapest box kits for wine. If we bought the more expensive kits to make the nicer wine, it would be much pricier!

Holy crap. I'll have to look into that. That sounds awesome for that price. How early did you have to get it started?

This is so helpful, since we have to provide our own alcohol. FH is irrationally opposed to having beer for some reason, so I don't know if it's crazy to have wine, champagne, and liquor with no beer. Also what about mixers? I don't know if it would be easier/cheaper to just have champagne, a red and a white wine, and (a) two signature drinks or (b) a mix of different liquor and mixers... Help!!!

Lara- when I was looking into getting our drinks I was told to keep it simple. So if you fh really doesn't want beer for whatever reason( but I would offer a lager and a lite beer honestly - unopened cases you should be able to return) I would do the one red, one white, and the two signature drinks. Doing it that way should give most people something they would want to drink.

Jomago - Depends on the mix. Since we bought cheaper mixes, we only needed 4-6 weeks. But the more expensive wine mixes take up to several months.

Lara - Don't go crazy with choices, but you should offer some of one beer. I would go with 1 white wine, 1 red wine, champagne (if you have the money, but not needed), and maybe vodka and rum with some coke and whatnot. Our venue's bar provided the bartenders and mixers. The more options you give people, the more half-empty bottles you will have leftover in the end Smiley smile

Also, our venue told us that they have a stock of liquor that they can sell us at state minimum prices for if we run out during the event and they will replenish (with our consent). With about 1.5 hours left, the owner did come up to us and tell us that we were out of Black Label and Jameson and asked if we wanted to buy to replenish. I was about to say yes, but DH refused, since there was still wine, beer, other liquor and people were starting to leave, anyways. I'm glad we didn't do that and end up with a 1.5L bottle of Jameson at over $60 with just 2 drinks out of it!

Well shit we paid a lot more than that for just beer/wine for less people. I guess doing some stuff yourself is worth it :-) thanks for sharing!

Thanks for pointing me their way, Raelyn! It saved us a bunch of money which made it possible to get better liquor! It shipped really fast and wasn't even a high shipping cost!

JCB - Yeah, usually DIY leads to more time and money. But being able to provide your own alcohol (while they supply the bar, mixers, etc) saves you a TON of money!

    Hey ladies!

Thanks so much for this info! You're seriously so helpful!

I was wondering, how many hours did you have your bars open? Mine is a total of 6 hours so I wanted to take that into account when planning. Also, any help with mixers? I have to provide my own so any suggestions or ideas on those would be amazing!

    Thanks again.

    Melissa
