Other People's Opinions...

Kayla, on December 6, 2013 at 9:17 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

My FFIL hasn't had much input with the wedding. Well FH calls him one day just to talk and he asks "Why is your wedding on a Friday?" Then he goes on and on about how inconvenient that is and it's going to be hard for people to show up and get off work, blah blah blah.

What are some negative opinions that you received from family members about your wedding?

I have been lucky and no one in either family has given us any opinions about the wedding. The closest things I have gotten is FMIL wanting the wedding to be sooner and FFIL saying we should go to a Sandals resort for our honeymoon.

Well definitely my wedding date. It's on a Sunday right after all the holiday breaks so I've gotten a lot of people complain about it. Everyone apparently prefers a summer wedding because that's what they kept suggesting. But oh well, my FH and I picked that date for a reason and if people don't want to go, then I won't force them.

"Why are you spending more than 2 Grand on your wedding?" "Why dont you just have it in my backyard?" "Why dont you wear my wedding dress?" "Why dont you get married here instead of your hometown?" "Why dont you save the money for your first house instead of wasting it on a wedding?"

My mother threw a fit that I wanted to have cupcakes (seriously, they're so easy, no mess, way easier to preserve, and you can clearly see how many are left and have people take more). Needless to say, she won that debate by paying for the cake--just so long as it's an actual CAKE.

My wedding is on a Thursday, so I have gotten the same reactions as you.

Also, FH and I are going to wash each other's feet in the wedding to symbolize us serving each other. (Jesus washed his disciples' feet, so we feel called to do the same.) My dad is a little embarrassed by the idea, but hey, it isn't him that is doing it. Smiley tongue

At the end of the day, it's our wedding. We don't always have to listen to everybody else. Sure, some of the things we do may seem out of the ordinary, but it's how we feel God wants us to have our wedding. Smiley smile

The only bad thing we have is that FH's adopted family has two black sheep - one is married to FH's adopted niece and the other is dating FH's adopted sister.

The husband does drugs (coke and meth), abandoned FH's niece when their infant was 3 months old, forcing her to lose her apartment and mess up her credit. He went on a drug binge and ended up shacking up with an ex-gf. For months, whenever he did call (which was rare), he never asked about his baby daughter. Then, suddenly, they're back together as of a month ago and he still hasn't gone to rehab.

The sister's BF is a thug who controls her and now they're out drinking all the time (in inappropriate times), and has completely changed her.

We don't want either men there. FH's adopted mom said that they're family so they must be invited and if they're not invited, then she won't go. Grr.

Our wedding is on a Sunday and everyone's like, " people can't stay out late so you need to have the wedding early since people have to work on Monday! " I think people can be a little sleep deprived for my day. Smiley smile

Here are a few i have gotten. Why does everything have to be outside, why are you serving food you like and not the normal wedding food, why are you walking down aisle by yourself, why are you getting married at his ranch and not paying for a venue, why are you breaking most traditions, and my favorite why do you want your wedding to be different from the other brides in the area.

FutureMrs.Smith: My friend just had her wedding on Nov. 10 and her colors were black and white with a splash of red and it was beautiful. In fact, those were going to be my original wedding colors but she claimed them first haha! You go rock your colors!

Jackie- I personally would love to go to a winter wedding and who wouldn't be interested in a hot cocoa bar?? I would love it even in the summer.

I hate how people act like a wedding HAS to be on a Saturday and any other day is just inconvenient. Or in your case Rebekah that it HAS to be local. I feel like the people who truly want to celebrate with us will no matter if it is on a Tuesday night or if they have to catch a flight.

Kelsey- I think that is beautiful it is unique to you and your FH and it means a lot to you two. That is what makes your wedding unique. Don't worry about your dad feeling embarrassed he will get over it.

FutureMrsSmith- I've never ever seen red at a funeral so I'm not sure where people got that from. Those colors are very classic and will look amazing.
