Other family member wedding a month later??

Deimos711, on July 23, 2019 at 11:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi all -

First time poster here but long time lurker. I'm planning my 10-year for next year (with a guest list of around 40-50). It'd end up being destination for a lot of family as most are scattered around the country. And we're honestly expecting a good amount of people not to be able to come because of that.

A family member has just sent out invites for her wedding that will take place a month after the day of our vow renewal (we have not sent out any invites yet). Hers is also destination so family will need to travel. I feel horrible and angry that I won't be able to do both (we were originally planning a long honeymoon for ourselves after our renewal). And I'm also hesitant on having the renewal entirely because I know people will struggle financially with attending both.

My husband is upset and doesn't want to cancel ours. I just don't know what to do. Smiley ups Any advice?

I would send out the invites and have a wonderful time with the family who are able to attend. Your guest list may be a bit smaller based on finances but the day is about you and your love for your husband. Apologize to your family member whose wedding you will have to miss and buy them a nice gift in return I think.

I agree with PP - if that date works for you best, dont move it for that reason.

People will attend if they are able, but you will likely have people that would have loved to attend not be able to. Honestly, I would assume that most people will probably choose to celebrate the wedding over your vow renewal (this is what we would do, anyway), but that doesn't man you should change your plans. Enjoy your celebration with whoever is able to attend, but just be understand that your guest list may be smaller than originally anticipated.

Will that's a let down. If you've already booked things send your invites and go ahead. Just don't take it personally if more people decline than you hoped for

I would say go ahead with your celebration - people will join you if they're able - and it definitely isn't personal if they're unable to attend.

On a side note: she's sending out invitations *a year* in advance?!
