Orthodox Christian weddings

FutureMrs.Morgan, on January 23, 2019 at 6:09 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 7
I’m desperately wanting to connect with other Orthodox Christains who are wanting a venue or destination wedding but not wanting to face the ramafications with the church. We have considered doing two weddings. One at our venue and one at the church but then I am afraid that my venue wedding will feel fake since it legally will be. But my venue cost is the same if we have the ceremony there or not and it’s no where near my church so I’m torn.

Can you have the ceremony at the church and just have the reception somewhere else?

Gurl I completely understand (I'm Serbian orthodox). Is your fiance orthodox?

We are having the ceremony at the church, and the reception/venue is like 30 - 40 min away. I don’t think you need to do the ceremony twice, even if it is included with the price of the venue. How far away are they?

Have ur church wedding first and then do one at the venue. If they find out u did a wedding outside the church u can get into trouble.

Has anyone come across Greek Orthodox priests officiating at venues outside the church, or the ability to have a blessing of some sort before the actual marriage?

No he’s not. And we have the venue purchased for 12 hours so I feel I’m losing money if I’m not there for the whole day and it’s nowhere near the church

I now this is an old post but I am in a similar situation where my venue is 20 mins from my church. We're considering two ceremonies as well and doing the Greek Orthodox church ceremony ahead of time. I would love to know what you ended up doing!
