Ordering dress from David's Bridal Online Help

Kourtney, on May 10, 2016 at 6:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

This is my first time posting...

I'm getting married August 12th 2016. I found a dress I really like that is within my budget on DB. It is currently a special value dress at 139.99.

My measurements are: Bust: 35, Waist: 28, Hip:37, and I am 5'4".

Based on their measurement chart, I am exactly a size 6 on top, and the type of dress I want doesn't rely (based on what they say on their site) on the hips that much.

This is the dress: http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_chiffon-wedding-dress-with-strapless-ruched-bodice-int15555

I can also get free shipping right now and it's a quick ship, which would be great!

So, should I take a chance on getting this dress online? I haven't tried it on at the store yet. I was hoping that based on the reviews and on my measurements that I wouldn't have to. I also would be going elsewhere for any alterations if necessary, since I know DB charges A LOT (it seems if I'd need any, it would likely just be hemming).

What do you think?

Are you able to order more then one size just to be safe? I started out my wedding dress search online (with Davids Bridal) and found out I needed to size up in most dresses. David's Bridal has easy online returns, however you do have to pay to ship it back which sort of stinks. I ended up just going into the store to find one!

I would probably go into the store to try it on, get measured, etc. Then order it if you can only get the deal online.

I ordered mine online at DB but I tried it on in the store first. I can say, for me, the measurements and size I ordered fit perfect. I do have a seamstress who will be adjusting the length...

It's a very beautiful dress! Very similar to mine Smiley smile

@Liz: I might be able to. Though money-wise I'm not sure how soon I could afford buying two dresses at a time. How did you find out you were one size up?

I would go in and try it on. If I would have ordered the one I fell in love with online I would have looked ridiculous.

I really loved a dress online and ordered two sizes to be safe. I fit the bigger size, but absolutely hated the dress on me!! If you are able to go into a store and try on, then ordering online is usually cheaper.

@Liz: I see! After that experience, would you say their sizes are true to form based on a persons measurements? I probably will try going in and trying it on (if doing so is free).

For me, I ended up with one dress size bigger then I wear in normal dresses. The lady helping me told me it's pretty normal to size up when buying a wedding dress. However, there are a lot of people who will fit perfectly into their true size. I don't think you will know unless you physically try it on... and yes trying on dresses at the store is totally free!!

Okay. That's good to know. Smiley smile I guess the best thing would be to try it on at the store and then buy the right one online. Thanks!

Can you return it if you don't like it? Its a beautiful, simple dress but if you don't like it I would hate for you to be stuck with it.

I read you can return dresses bought online and as long as they don't say "final sale" or something. This one doesn't seem to say that and it can be bought online. Smiley smile And that would be terrible!

Could you go to a store and try it first? I'm sure as long as you measured accurately you'll probably be ok. Check their exchange/return policy before purchasing

Hi date twin! I've had horrible experiences with DB so I'm very antiDB! The issue is that DB has a no return policy and they do not give you your money back. I would see if there is a store near you to try it on and then go back online and order it.

@Almost: Hey! Awesome! It's a good day to get married. Smiley smile And yeah, that seems to be the best solution. I'm comfortable ordering online, but more so if I try it on first (might try going tomorrow if able). Sorry about your DB troubles! :/

You CAN return online dresses as long as it's not a final sale, you just have to pay the shipping to send it back. So you will lose whatever money it costs to ship it back. You can't return dresses bought IN store.

@Liz: Is a bummer you have to pay for shipping. :/ And can't return items bought in-store. Thanks for verifying that though! I thought that was the case but it helps to have it reiterated.
