Ordering a dress without trying it on?

Brittani, on April 6, 2021 at 2:16 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
So I have a challenging body type to dress shop for and a lot of the dresses I love I couldn’t try on when I went shopping last week. I tried on what I could but I didn’t fall in love with anything. As I was making a second appointment my consultant pulled out a dress that I fell in absolute love with and can’t stop thinking about.
The sample is runway sized though and is a form fitting dress so no way I can get it on. No other shop sells it around me or has a bigger sample do there is no way for me to try it on. I can order it custom to my measurements though.
Has anyone ordered a dress they didn’t try on? How did it work out for you if so? Any advice ?! Thanks ahead of time. (Pic of the dress ) Ordering a dress without trying it on? 1

If you know the designer of the dress, I would check with them to see if they have a loan program. Most major wedding dress designers do! Typically they charge around $50-100 to ship the dress to one of their retailers, where you can try it on.

I would never do that personally. What happens if you order it custom and you hate it when it comes in? Many brides have mentioned that they start dress shopping with one dress style in mind and they decide against it after trying on that style and end up with something they would never otherwise pick. Though it is odd that the salesperson pulled out a dress you couldn't fit in.

Even if local shops don't have that specific designer or dress, other designers have mermaid dresses to try on to see if you love the style on you.

I totally bought a dress online without trying it on. for the most part it was in standard sizes which was small, medium, large, etc. i went with a small and it fit well but obviously that's a risk. the best thing to do is if you've ever tried on that brand before then that would be a better indicator and then also looking at sizing charts and customer reviews to see if it's true to size

If I were you, I'd try to find something similar that you can try on. If you email bridal stores in the area with the name of the dress and a picture and ask if they have similar dresses you can try on. Like a PP said, sometimes you have one idea, but end up hating it on!

Also, I tried on this dress! I thought I recognized the lace pattern and went through the pictures I took from shopping and it is the same one! how fun! (I don't know your size/body shape, but I'm a 6, with DD boobs, if a picture of it on me would help, let me know!)

She only pulled it because I showed her a picture of it. I am planning to try to find a similar dress to try on to make sure I like the shape on me. Thanks for the reply!

I’d love to see a picture. I am a size 12 but I have an extreme waist to hip ratio (the girl measuring me pointed it out) so I have a hard time trying on fitted dresses because the plus size ones fit my hips but look funny everywhere else even with clamps and standard sizes are too small to get over my hips. I’m going to try more on when I go back though do hopefully I can get a better idea. Thanks !

Here are the pictures I have! I hope it is helpful in some way. Maybe seeing it on someone who is definitely NOT a runway model can help you envision it on yourself! Good luck finding a dress! Ordering a dress without trying it on? 2

This is my second wedding, for my first , our budget was small so I bought my dress off Facebook marketplace for $200. I think it was originally $1200 or something. It fit but I wasn’t in love with it, but it was very beautiful. I would never do that with a dress over $200. I would definitely try it or something extremely similar, on

I went dress shopping multiple times and tried on tons of dresses. I got an idea of my general size in different styles and designers. I have ordered two dresses online, the first one fit like a glove! (I haven't gotten my second one yet)

Reviews are your friend! I look at picture reviews before ordering anything, must less a wedding dress. But I don't see anything wrong with ordering your dress online without trying it on! AS LONG AS you know your size, or you're able to put in your custom measurements when ordering. I would try dresses on at a local boutique or wedding salon before ordering alone, but I think it's totally fine!

I had bought a dress online. It was pre-owned but never worn/tag still attached. I absolutely LOVE it. It was definitely a risk but well worth it. It's longer than what I was expecting and the cleavage area is a bit funky (since it was for a different body type) so I need to get those fixed. Other than that, the fit is fine.
