Orange Eye Shadow? Advice please

Kimpy, on October 12, 2011 at 4:50 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I normally don't wear a lot of makeup. If I wear any, I just use foundation, mascara and blush. Sometimes I throw on some green eyeshadow, wowie! =) I am getting my hair & makeup trial next month, and I was trying to think of some ideas to show the gal so when she asks what I like, I don't go "derr"

I am having a red, orange, yellow theme for my wedding. Do you think it would be really ugly or stupid to have orange eye shadow? I don't like pink, I am not having any silver or actual gold in my wedding. I don't want purple eye shadow either.

Here are a few pictures I was thinking of showing her. I also have 2 examples of hair styles I may want (not sure if that would affect it or not). I am going to be having orange and yellow flowers and the BM are wearing some kind of burnt orange. Ivory for me.

Should I just have her try it and take pictures? I just wouldn't want everyone making fun of me for matching so much. I just think it would be really pretty. All opinions welcome please!

That's not really orange. It's more of a gold. I think that a hard color to pull off. If you can pull it off- go for it. But it doesn't look good on alot of skin tones.

I'd go for a more natural look. On your wedding day, you want to look like you- not some version of you. I'd take the colors you typically wear and amp it up a little.

    Honestly...

When I was getting my makeup done for my senior prom trial, the woman did orange eyeshadow. She kept telling me how good it would look with my blue eyes and my blue dress. I was like... I don't know about this. But I saw the color, fell in love with it and let her continue. I thought I liked it looking in the mirror. I took pictures and WOW I can't believe how UGLY it was. Maybe it was just on me, but BOY IT WAS UGLY.

I ended up going somewhere else for the actual day and getting a purple eyeshadow and it was beautiful.

So my experience - I'd stay away from the orange. I think something more classic would look better for your wedding day. I know you don't have gold in the wedding, but I still think it'd match with your colors without being too matchy, you know? If you go with the orange, I think a darker orange would look better than the ones you posted.

Hey Philly Burbs girl - what are you looking for - are you looking for soft & natural or high fashion glam? Agree w/ Meghan that it's not really Orange but more of a Copper and if you like it the make up artist should be able to play in that color palete to find the right shades and accents for ya. I think the model is very pretty and you could definitely pull it off but you need to be comfortable with it.

I love this look! I have Coppering by MAC and it's A-Mazing!!! I use that along with Exquisite Pink (which is actually an orangy color) and it looks great! It makes blue eyes pop!

I would pick makeup based on your coloring and not take into account your wedding decor at all. People aren't going to be like "her eye shadow doesn't coordinate with her centerpieces!"

One tip of advice- Only apply the orange color to your lower lid. If you put it above your crease, it looks silly. Just use a light, shimmery neutral color for the area above your crease. Smiley smile Good luck!

If you like it, do a trial, take some pics, and see what you think- but i wouldn't match my eye shadow to my colours, it's a little much. The pics you have look nice, but you definitely have to have the right skin tone to pull it off.

SOMETIMES orange eyeshadow can make your eyes look "redish" almost like they are sore. Not always, I guess it depends on the shade of orange and how its applied. I like the pictures that Jamie T posted!

In the pictures on the models, I think the orange looks okay. For my trial I could try whatever color I wanted, and if I didn't like it, we would change it and start over... You could always try it, take some pictures, and see how it looks on you. And she could make it more neutral and less Halloween by adding a little brown and gold maybe. I say try it! It wouldn't hurt to see how it looks on you! Smiley laugh

Copper/brown > orange. orange is a little out of style but copper/gold/brown same effect but in style!

Instead of thinking orange and yellows, opt for coppers, bronzes and golds. I use them quite often as they look fantastic on lots of skin tones. It doesn't hurt to try and see if you like it. After all, your trial is just that....to try different looks and colors. Best wishes!

Hmm yea maybe the copper or brown instead. That is still fallish =) Hey Marie, I am not trying to look like a supermodel or makeup ad girlie =) I want a somewhat normal color I guess. I just don't wear a lot of eye makeup, so I got excited when I saw the orangy type color. I will try the copper color, thanks to everyone who suggested it. I have hazel/green eyes with yellow flecs so we will see what the artist suggests & how the trial pics look!

Plain orange may tend to make your eyes look dull and somewhat tired. I suggest using an orange in the metallic family as others suggest. You may want to try a smokey eye that mixes the metallic orange with a complimentary color like purple or blue. The orange shadow should then be applied furthest away from the eye with the blues/purples closer to the eye. This will make your eyes pop especially in photos. Good luck!
