Option of using chopsticks

Mia and Brandon, on July 26, 2021 at 3:41 AM Posted in Planning 0 18
Me and my fiance decided to have chopsticks as an option at our wedding for a few reason one big one being me and quite a bit of our guest are used to or prefer eating with chopsticks there's just one little problem his parents are kinda racist and already had a problem with me because to them I appear too Asian with my eye shape yellow skin tone and thick mixture of accents which is due to me group up in a very multi cultural household so im not sure how to go about telling them there will be an option for chopsticks or if we should just not give them chopsticks at their table

There's no need to tell them anything. You do not in any way shape or form need to pander to their racism.

If they do, they can leave or be escorted out. If I understand correctly this is your FH family? FH should take care of this issue once and for all.

Hes been trying to get them to not make racist remarks or inappropriate comments and has told them if they do it during the wedding they will be escorted out his father is the big issue because he not only makes racist remarks some of them are extremely inappropriate talking about things like size and "yellow fever" he was originally not going to let his family attend the wedding but he really wants his young brothers to attend

I'm sorry you are having to deal with this. Continue to let FH deal with them. I can understand wanting to have his brothers in his life. Perhaps consider hiring security, should things take a turn.

That’s horrible. Have chopsticks available for anyone to use.
I can’t tell you who to invite, but I can tell you that you don’t have to be in a room with people saying racist things.
It sounds like they aren’t going to stop - if he’s asked them not to, and they keep doing it, they are doing it on purpose. The thing about a boundary is that it’s for you, it’s a statement of what you will accept. Don’t let anyone, even your fiance, tell you that you have to give them chances to stop this, you do not need to be around them.

As a guest, I would love eating with chopsticks! Go for it! It’s your and your fiancé day and you two make the decisions for your life together- starting with having chopsticks at your wedding ❤️ Good luck to you!!

You can tell them right where to shove that chopstick if they have anything negative to say.

I'm sorry you have to deal with this on such a special day. I say set each place setting with all options and as how it happens in restaurants you use what you feel most comfortable using.

I would have them as part of the silverware settings. Do not invite racist guests or include them in your lives, regardless of their relationship to you. Unfortunately it is not something that they decide one day they will not be anymore and you don’t need that toxicity.
