Opinions please - How many favors should we make????

Debra, on March 16, 2016 at 12:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We are DIYing our favors (bottled BBQ sauce) and I wanted to get these started soon. When I went online to order the bottles we will be using there is clearly savings in per unit cost when you order a larger quantity. However, I started thinking I don't know exactly how many bottles we should make. We won't have a final guest count until May, and I don't want to wait that long to make favors. I do not want to have 100 bottles of BBQ sauce left over, but I also don't want to have too few favors.

Do we make enough for every PERSON (adults & children) invited?

Do we make enough for every ADULT invited?

Do we make less than the total invited knowing there will be declines to the RSVP?

What are your thoughts?

Maybe this was a stupid question...?

Nobody offered any suggestions, but after thinking about this more we will make enough for every adult guest invited - if we have extra, I guess people can have more than one.

Personally I would do enough for all adult guests and then do a little candy bag for kids.

I'd say one per couple/family unit. You will have SO many left behind on the tables! Even the best ideas still get forgotten by tired, drunk guests.

PS Are they relatively large bottles, not minis? If so, def 1 bottle per couple/family!

@Noel555 - that is what I am afraid of, having so many left over/left behind. We have 330 on our guest list (with children & plus ones). Approximately 60% are OOT. We realize we will have many that cannot travel for financial or health reasons, and we are expecting a high decline rate.

@mlingenfelter - I already have goodie bags planned for the kids, so the BBQ sauce for adults only makes much more sense now that you mention it

@Noel555 - plastic 8 oz. bottles with cap & seals - like the type on a catsup bottle

Not a stupid question at all Smiley smile

If people are flying in, there's a chance they won't want to take the bottle because they might already be at the max of liquids they are allowed to take in a carry-on. It also depends on where you'll have them - will you place them next to each plate, or on a separate table where people will come grab them? If the latter, I think it'd be a good idea to have enough for all non-OOT adults. And you can always save the leftovers for people who declined. We gave favours to those who weren't able to attend the next time we saw them Smiley smile

@VC that is a great idea! Most of our OOT guests are in Chicago or the surrounding area.

FMIL is getting married 2 weeks after us - many of the OOT guests will be attending her wedding, we could deliver favors to them when we go to Chicago (but not during her wedding or reception).

Oh that's nice! Yeah if you have a chance to meet up with them before/after the wedding, you can give them all the leftover bottles Smiley smile

I would say one per family/couple. I can't imagine bringing home 2 or more bottles of BBQ sauce, even though it sounds delicious!

I did this too! We made one for each person...so yes husband, wife, child would get 3. Eta: ours are 4 Oz jars so pretty small.
