Opinions for reception during covid please!

Jenn, on February 10, 2021 at 6:59 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

To stay safe and healthy after our small outdoor ceremony, do you think it would be acceptable to have a quick toast, and send everyone home with catered lunch boxes maybe with gormet sandwhiches? Or even a giftcard to a restaurant? Honestly covid is helping us be more economical to save for our honeymoon, but do you think it's worth it to sacrifice a reception like this, or does it seem too cheap? All of our guests are traveling out of town, few have expressed their concerns with eating as a group and outside food.

Thanks so much!

I wouldn't say it's cheap if a majority of your guests truly don't feel comfortable with staying and eating, but would people really travel from our of town for a 30 min ceremony? Maybe have a small reception for those willing to stay and eat and have a to-go plate option?

I think a toast and sending them home with lunches is fine!

I would find it it rude to send them home with a boxed sandwich. If they have issues eating in a group, they will not make the effort to attend the ceremony.

How is a toast safer than eating? It's really not. You can have an outdoor event with tables spread apart and guests can eat at the tables..

That’s a tough decision- personally I would think it odd that I traveled all that way to be sent home with a boxed lunch.

I agree with this. I find this plan rather bizarre. Traveling a far distance to be sent home with a boxed lunch? Where is 'home'? Would the guests go to their hotel rooms to eat this boxed lunch? I would find this rude as a guest

If you don’t want to eat as a group, I think it would be nicer to have everyone gather together and visit Without a meal. You don’t have to eat to socialize - visiting together would be better than nothing. They are there to celebrate you. Maybe hire a musician or some entertainment or just do something to social distant celebrate tour wedding.

If I am traveling from out of town, I would expect some sort of reception. You could do a socially distanced dinner and finish after that. If these guests are truly worried about Covid, they wouldn't be traveling to a wedding.

I would fine this rude as well travelers would want to eat after you're ceremony, even if you doing hors d'oeuvres, cake and punch but sending them to their destinations with a "luchbox" is like sending them to their rooms for time out!!
    Please don't do it!!

I agree with PP. Simple cake and champagne receptions aren't uncommon but since they're traveling from out of town I would forego your initial idea.
