Opinion on Wine/Alcohol

The venue where my fiance and I are getting married does not provide the alcohol so we have to bring our own. I need opinions on getting boxed wine such as Franzia? I don't want our guest to think we are cheap but at the same time I would rather buy that then bottles. Opinions please!

I love boxed wine haha We always have the Naked Grape Pinot noir at our house. Also a fan of Black Box - aside from their Shiraz that neither of us wanted to finish Smiley amazing

I'm not a big fan of Franzia. There are some cheap wine bottles out there that are really good. Honestly the dollar store usually has discounted wine bottles ($1-$4) Smiley smile

You have a few months, wine doesn't go bad it gets better with time.. just go to the store every week and pick up a few bottles of wine.

    Issue solved.

I'm not sure if buying a little over time will be cheaper. Ask the wine store for recommendations and you can do a tasting. They may also take of 10% if you buy in bulk. Go to a couple stores to get pricing on buying a little bit over time vs. buying in stalk. Depending on where you live you could do the tasting and then see if a wholesale club sells them at a cheaper rate.

We are doing boxed wine- so far we've decided on black box. Just need to narrow down which kinds.

Yes, bottles definitely look nicer BUT there is nothing wrong with boxed wine. Like everyone else has suggested I would stay away from Franzia, black box is great!

Don't fo Franzia. You really do not want to do that to your guests.

Boxed wines can be fine (disagreeing with another post about them being cheap.) I am in the wine business and I can tell you that there are some very expensive wines that are in boxes (many delivered to restaurants).

I would go with the Black Box that was suggested earlier, or La Vieielle Ferme. Have your venue put the wine in to decanters or carafes.....do not pour from the box in front of guests.

@J, not all wine gets better with age ;-) In fact, some need to be consumed within a year of the vintage date. Others can be cellared (if done properly) for 50 years or more.

Ask at different liquor stores for a bulk discount. I got mine at the stores cost.

Also adding to what @J said, if you DO purchase wine early in advance (after checking to make sure that it will keep it's quality over time) make sure to store it properly- unopened, away from heat, bottles on their side, the darker and cooler the room the better.
