Open bar - excluding shots?

We are hosting an open bar for the duration of our reception. Is it appropriate to tell the bartenders that we do not want to allow shots at all?

Ours won't serve shots, unless me or the groom orders it.

I have never been to an open bar where shots where allowed. Those always had to be paid for if someone wanted one. I think maybe because it was pure alcohol.

I would ask the venue what the policy for that would be to see if they even allow it.

My venue doesn't even allow shots; I don't think I've ever been to a wedding with shots. I think it's some sort of liability issue, but I'm not sure. It's totally fine not to have them

I think that's fine. My bartender actually has a note in the contract that they don't allow them.
