My FH is determine in having an open bar at our reception for our guests. I just wanted to know has anyone else considered this or has anyone did this for your reception? If so how much did that run you about?

We are doing beer, wine and champagne. Venues here do not offer a flat rate per person for open bar nor do any of them allow us to bring in our alcohol so this was a good compromise for our budget!

Full open bar. Our venue charges a flat per person rate for house bar or premium bar. We are doing premium Smiley smile I'm afraid if we did a consumption bar we would end up paying more.

It would also be a major insult to our guests if we did not provide an open bar. Given that Frank and I enjoy a drink or 10 as well, we wouldn't think of doing it any o other way. We also were able to bring in our own liquor for an open premium bar. The booze was roughly $1K for 60 people. At the last minute, we did hire a bartender. It was the best decision we made. He was awesome.

At my daughter's wedding, the bar is part of the $140 per person charge. It is 5 hour premium with a champagne toast, tableside wine service, 3 signature drinks and various cordials. We also have to bring in some special orders.

I think if you can gauge how much your guests drink, you can decide on consumption or open bar. You can also see if your venue will offer a different price for premium booze, call names or rail booze. Some venues do offer a different prices for different types of booze.

We got very lucky on this one: $250 for sixty guests for five hours. But then again, the venue owner was a friend. And he knew our friends don't drink much.

We dont really have a budget for a bar so we will probly pay for a bartender and have a cash bar at our wedding that way our guest can drink if they want but we wont break the bank.

We had our reception at a Bar (we were VERY untraditional) that we frequent and from 10p-3am it cost us $800 for open bar for just close friends and family based on consumption (which means they only charge you for what your guests drink) for about 50 people. Like most people are saying it does depend on your venue though!!!
