Only wine, champagne, and beer or open bar for a daytime wedding?

catsrock, on January 6, 2015 at 5:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

The first option is cheaper, right? Which do you think will be better for the guests?

I have no preference since I don't drink, but I do care about the money part.

I think that for a daytime wedding (or night time actually) you can totally do a wine/beer/champagne bar. You could do a prosecco bar with mix ins like OJ, peach nectar and fruit too.

Cheaper and absolutely appropriate for any time wedding.

Totally fine! It would be fine for an evening wedding, but I think it's definitely appropriate for a daytime wedding.

You may get a few people who only drink liquor, but for the most part people can find something they like!

I'm always going to vote for an open bar if a vote is being taken. I dislike wine and I hate beer. Champagne is okay. I wouldn't drink as much at an afternoon wedding, but I'd still like a few cocktails. That being said, wine and beer will most likely appeal to a majority of your guests.

I think for day-time that is totally acceptable. And I love Celia's idea of a kind of mimosa bar with prosecco or champagne with a bunch of different mix-ins. So cute!

One of my really DIY brides did that the first time I saw it. She had a table of flutes with a chalkboard 'menu'. Juices, fruits (berries, twists, citrus slices) a couple of liqueurs (Cassis, Peach Shnapps, Campari) and some fun swizzle sticks. I thought it was adorable!

I like the prosecco idea. except most of my family members don't drink champagne from what i see...it's just a special occasion thing, but maybe we can do it.

i'm pretty sure most of our guests all like wine and beer.

If you don't want to do actual champagne, then use a sparkling white wine. They tend to be sweeter, so some of your guests that don't typically drink will probably enjoy it anyway. I highly recommend a sparkling moscato, if that's what you're looking for. Just don't forget to also have some dry wine (a brut sparkling wine or a champagne) so that people who dislike the sweet stuff can also join in on the fun.

I had a brunch wedding and had brunch drinks like mimosa and white wine. My DH and I are like you and do not drink at all. Plus I felt it was more than appropriate for a daytime wedding.

And I think when it comes down to it, people who are drinkers would find something that they like to drink. Either way I don't believe that anyone would complain. I say go for it, girl!

Verdi is the sparkling, little sweeter than Champagne choice in many of the banquet halls here. A sparkling moscato (I love the pink and I don't know why) would work too.

What I like about that bar idea is that it really feels like a style choice instead of a budget choice!

(oh, and a PS; many of my industry friends are ditching champagne flutes for wine glasses, which I love cause .....they hold more ;-)

I think that's totally fine for ANY wedding, but especially during the day, no one will miss the hard liquor! Except maybe alcoholics lol

Celia, I LOVE the idea of the prosecco bar.

We are planning on having a beer/wine/champagne bar for our 5 pm wedding for the lower cost. My fiance keeps saying he wants some bottles of something stronger for "his men." My worry with that is that his men will extend beyond the fathers and groomsmen and then other people will wonder where there liquor is.

Even if his men are just the fathers and GM, you shouldn't provide different alcohol to them than you will be providing to the rest of your guests.

Yeah a bloody beer bar and a mimosa station sounds like lots of fun and should be more affordable...but otherwise beer and wine or champagne is all good. I think anything that is early though doesn't need as much booze.

I think it's perfectly fine for an afternoon wedding. And I agree on the flutes...they are so small. Wine glasses would work much better.

I think that sounds like a great idea for daytime, as long as you have a options people should be happy and buzzed, lol

Totally acceptable. We're having an afternoon wedding at a vineyard and are only having wine (can only use the alcohol they can provide there) I agree with the prosecco bar (though we're not having one)

We're also having a fun non-alcoholic drink station for italian soda, flavored iced tea and lemonade. That may be fun to include too! Smiley smile
