Online only rsvp

Nemo, on January 16, 2018 at 8:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 25
My FH and I are considering doing online only RSVP. We love the convenience of it and that it will only let people register for who is invited. We have considered sending out traditional RSVPs to older adults that may prefer it, but honestly they’re all pretty tech savvy and could navigate the website just fine.

if we do this, do we still include an RSVP card and just not include a second envelope with a stamp to mail it back? Or would we just put the information on the details card for how to RSVP online?

    Your question confuses me.

If you're only doing online RSVP then you don't need RSVP cards, just a card giving the website they can RSVP to. If you provide an RSVP card and stamped envelope then you're offering both a mail option and an online option, so it wouldn't be "online only." If that makes sense.

It’s probably confusing because I’m confused on how to do it 😅

Your anser helped though! I guess I was unsure of how to indicate we were doing online only but I suppose we would just make a mention of it on the details card.

I’m doing online only. I put the info on the back of the invitation. It’s much easier and this way, I won’t lose any RSVP cards that get mailed in. You can direct guests to contact you or delegate a contact if they have difficulty. As far as including a small card to direct them to the website depends on how formal your invitations are.

The downside to doing it this way is that most people don't look at the back of an invitation and will be confused as to how to RSVP to begin with.

I did this and also included an email as an alternative. Most people had no issue and I enjoyed being able to know who RSVP’d without a lot of mail.

I understand your point. It works for me but I also have a very small guest count. I would recommend to include some direction for guests to clear any potential confusion.

We used a separate RSVP card (for online RSVPs). I just like the formality of having the separate card.

I am doing online only RSVP and have made my own card insert that is the size of a business card. I am printing it off onto Cardstock. That way it is not on the back of the invite so the guest will still see it. I liked this idea because it saved on posted but for me most importantly waste. I know I had to use paper to print them, but it saved additional paper being used for the envelopes and postage.

I’m doing online only, only those whose names are on the guest list are the only ones who can RSVP. I’ve added plus 1’s as well so once a person RSVP then it say they have a plus one to include as well

I am doing an online RSVP and I have had many friends & family members do this as well. At the bottom of your invitation say something like "RSVP at mywedding.com by XXX date". It is pretty straight forward and I haven't heard of anyone having any difficulty doing it this way. This way you can save a ton on your invites because you wont need a separate RSVP card, and you can have all of your details on your website so you wont need a details card either.

I would only include RSVP cards for people that aren't tech savvy (grandparents, older relatives, etc.). But if you put RSVP online for everyone else, they should be able to figure it out. Unfortunately, I think less and less people RSVP now regardless so you may have to chase down some people for responses.

I'm considering doing this and if I do, would put the RSVP + details on the same card. Basically the website to RSVP and the hotel information. I would not recommend putting information this important on the back of the invitation. People are also used to seeing RSVP cards with wedding invites so they might wonder where it is if you don't send one.

So we are doing the same. We ended up just combining the details and RSVP together into one card. I am satisfied with it. Otherwise, its too much paper and not enough information on all of it and it looks silly.

We sent out “details cards” instead. It had “we have reserved __ seats in your honor” and “please RSVP online here”

we had this along w/ our normal invitation

I didn't realize this was an option and I'll probably absolutely go this route to save on the invites and return postage. I'm thrilled to know it exists!

Not everyone is technically savy so I will be sending both so it doesn't create complications. People will not respond if it is too difficult to do for them and I do miss the old days when people mailed things. Technology as made thing so impersonal that we forget what a simple letter does for each other.

One of my co-workers did an online only RSVP and he had it indicated on his details card. He said it worked really well for him and he received responses very quickly after sending them out. Maybe only two people didn't respond before the deadline without him asking.

We considered doing the same thing but since we are having a more formal wedding (and we have a couple of adults without internet), we went with mailing RSVP cards with the option to go online. It is a little extra money, but I feel like not having RSVP cards give the impression of a less formal and more casual wedding.

I was worried about that too Liesl, that's why we put the names on the each card to make it seem more formal and getting them printed with CardsAndPockets.com. I don't know if it will help, but we'll see.
