One Photographer vs. Two Photographer + Videographer

Laura, on June 10, 2019 at 9:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hey what is everyones take on wedding photographers for a wedding with about 130 people attending? We would like photo and video, are two photographers PLUS one videographer normal or should we do one photographer and one videographer?

Or, if we decide not to go with the video and do just photography, is there really a big difference between one and two photographers? Please help!! xo

We are having two photographers AND two videographers. I think having multiples of each of those vendors will help capture moments that you didn’t even know that you needed! We did spend quite a bit of our budget on the photography package because photos meant a lot to us but also found an amazing videographer for SO much less than the average rate in our area and are really excited for that as well. I don’t think you’ll regret hiring them, especially if its in your budget!

We're not having a videographer, but we're having two photographers. Having two viewpoints for the big moments like walking down the aisle, double the coverage during the reception, and having getting-ready photos of myself and FH (since we're getting ready at separate locations) were my main reasons for wanting two. We got lucky since the package we chose ended up including two photographers.

Hey Laura!! Congratulations on your engagement! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!!

Firstly, you should decide whether you want a videographer or not. Having a video of your day can mean that you can watch it over again and get to see things that you didn’t realize happened the first time around. Especially since you have quite a large guest count. Once you have decided in favor or against a videographer, you will be able to divide your budget up a little easier.

If you decide that you want to have a videographer at your wedding, you will then be able to judge whether you can afford one or two photographers more easily.

We had 2 photographers and 2 videographers. It was an absolute MUST for us. We are wedding videographers ourselves, so we knew well in advance that a big portion of our budget was allotted for this. Having 2 photographers is totally necessary in my opinion. The main shooter (for both photography and videography) stays with the bride primarily while the second shooter will be with the groom for getting ready shots. Having 2 of each allows 2 different view points of so many moments of your day. Especially with videography, while one can get all of your detail shots and the other can get those movie-like drone views of your ceremony and reception location. I'm a little bit biased, but I truly think both are worth it and if it isn't in your budget to have 2 videographers, at least get 1. You will regret not having a wedding video.

More than one individual working allows a more comprehensive capture of the wedding. Video is nice, but some people prefer photos. You'll have to think about what's important to your and your partner.

We have right around that guest count and have one photographer & one videographer. Both bring an assistant but only the 1 shooter.

We are expecting 130 guests and I’ve hired 2 photographers and 2 videographers. If you care about photo and film memories then better get 2 of each. It’s not impossible for 1 to do a good job but 2 heads are better than 1.

My package includes 2 photographers. I think that's appropriate for the size of your wedding. It comes in handy to have two of them. But completely up to you.

Of course multiple photographers/videographers are always nice to have & will capture the wedding from different angles. But if this would be an issue for your budget, I’d consider the following:
    - Ask vendors what the difference is in photos/video you will get with 1 & 2 shooters, for your guest count. We will have 70 people & both photographer & videographer said 1 shooter will be enough for this size wedding.
    - Are you & FH getting ready at the same venue/space? If yes, 1 shooter can capture both of you getting ready. If you’re in different locations, you’ll need 2nd shooter at least for the first few hours, if getting ready photos are important to you.
    - If you need to save $, consider hiring 2nd shooter for only first few hours while the most important moments are happening: getting ready, first look, ceremony, BP & family pictures. Then keep only 1 shooter for dinner & dancing part of the wedding.
    - Is having a lot of guest photos important to you? If yes, you’ll need a 2nd shooter. If not, or if you will have a photo booth, then 1 shooter who will follow you & FH mostly, will be enough.

Hey Laura! Have you and your FS decided what you will do in relation to photographers and a videographer for the wedding day?
