on site vs. off site hair & make up?

I've been pricing around salons for hair & make up, and one of the more affordable salons that is in my area said their off site location fee is $200, even though we are down the block from them. I've been pricing around salons for hair & make up, and one of the more affordable salons that is in my area said their off site location fee is $200, even though we are down the block from them. I'm unwilling to pay $200 for them to come 4 minutes to us, so I am debating having everyone get hair and make up done at the actual salon. I kept envisioning the salon coming to us at the inn we will be staying in, and never really thought about going to them. This may sound stupid but the first thing I thought about was that our getting ready photos would be broken up since we are off site from everything. I've been looking at their gallery and really like the work they do and the price is right. Realistically I suppose it doesn't make a difference, but I was wondering other's opinions on having hair / make up done at your location, vs. you traveling to them? Pros & cons of each?

See if they'd lower the fee under the circumstances. A travel fee of $200 is too much, but I understand them being reluctant to waive it completely.

My MOH and I will be going to the salon, which is 10 minutes from the house. It just didn't make sense to have our hair done at home or at the venue. Our photographer won't be at the venue until 1 hour before the ceremony, so we won't be having pics of "getting ready".

My photographer said that whenever people go to a salon, they end up running late! That's just based on his experience. I'm sure there are other salons that will travel to you and not charge a $200 travel fee. Usually it's based per mile.

I had mentioned to her that other salons I had looked at usually did the travel fee per mile, or if it was more than 20. She said that they have the fixed fee no matter the distance because she's taking workers out of the salon and needs to be able to cover for them, or something along those lines. I also asked how many bridal parties at once, and she said they have never had 2 bridal parties in the salon at once in their 10 years of business. She also said we could bring our own mimosas, snacks, etc. My bridal party (7 girls) and my mom / fmil will be getting hair and make up done. I'm thinking on bringing a basket of bagels with butter/cream cheese, fruit, etc. and mimosas to the salon the morning of. Thanks for the advice!!

Maybe you can call and negotiate a little? It is not like there are real travel costs involved for them if you are so close. I had hair and make up come to us and I think it was a lot easier. The photographer got the "getting ready " photos , including some boudoir pics and it was great. No one had to worry about traveling.

We had 2 stylist and 1 MUA come to us at the hotel. I wouldnt imagine it any other way! It was so relaxing to just hang out with the girls in the morning and not have to worry about transportation. My onsite fee was only $50 though.

Our venue is literally 8 minutes from our home so they will come to us since we are so close but there are not traveling fees and i let my FH get ready at the venue so he can play a round of gulf first thing in the morning so we wont run into each other

I haven't found my HMUA yet but I will need them to come to me. Otherwise it will be a pain to have everyone drive to and from the salon. the fees can be steep but I would make sure you can figure out the logistics if you go to the salon.

I'm paying $200 for 2 stylists to travel to us, but they're coming from far away...the salon I liked in town was going to charge me DOUBLE their regular prices to come to me. No thanks. Myself, 5 bridesmaids, and both moms are getting hair and makeup done, and I just think it would be less stressful if we do it at the house. I agree with others - is the salon aware you're a stone throw away? It's ridiculous for them to charge you that much...

For the record, make sure if you're having your stylist travel to you that you have plenty of space and room to breathe! Make sure your venue, or wherever, has space for them to spread out their things and be organized.
