Oh no! No vegetarian option!

Kara, on September 29, 2016 at 10:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 27

So I got my dinner options from my reception caterer and for the sit down dinner option (vs buffet) there is no vegetarian option. They offer prime rib, salmon, or chicken.

I've always dreamed of doing a sit down dinner, but do I need to rethink since they don't offer a vegetarian option? Off the top of my head I can't think of a single person we are inviting that is vegetarian, but I may be wrong or plus one's may follow a vegetarian diet and I don't know.

Please give me your opinions.

Did you ask your caterer if they can do a vegetarian option? Sometimes all you have to do is ask.

I would ask them if they offer a vegetarian option. Maybe they just don't list it but you can request one.

You can't change your whole wedding around for a couple people (if any!). If no one close to you follows that diet, I see no need to have it as an option. Sorry if it's harsh but I would drop dead before I changed my dining plan to cater to someone's plus one.

Salmon isnt vegetarian.....Also, @Andie, if any of your guests are vegetarian you should have a vegetarian option. How would you feel attending a wedding, giving up your time and money to celebrate this special occasion and couldn't even eat dinner???

Ask your caterer if they can make a vegeterian option. Most will upon request ETA: Stacy, salmon is not vegetarian. Was it once living? Yes, therefore vegetarians will not eat it

The venue I work at only has meat dishes on their wedding package menu sample, but there's a small note saying that vegetarian and vegan options are available as well. I would definitely ask, OP!

Usually the vegetarian option is just made to order upon request so I'm almost positive you're okay. Just ask!

Our vegetarian option was not on the list of options, but I called to ask and they had two choices

As someone who is (recently) vegetarian in a family of meat eaters, I never expect anyone to cater to me. My immediate family will make sure there's a vegetarian option for me, but I wouldn't be offended if I went to a wedding that didn't have a main course for me. I've learned to make do when it comes to my eating habits! Not sure if everyone feels that way though Smiley smile

Usually vegetarian options are made to order, just not placed on the menu. I'm sure that your venue can come up with a pasta dish for a few guests if needed.

See if they can make a pasta option. That's quick and easy for them.

As others have stated, usually caterers will have vegetarian options if need be. We are having chicken and salmon but are able to provide a vegetarian meal if requested. I was vegetarian /vegan for over ten years. I am used to eating salad. It was so delightful, however, when I went to an event and was served a proper main course.

I learned something new here. Pescatarian. I've never even considered a vegetarian option. Something else to look into... sigh.

On my caterers menu was only meat options.. My son, brother in law and nephew are vegans.. So I asked them about vegan options and they told me No problem that they could make a meal for them and their not charging me extra for it.

Don't stress to much. I'm pretty sure if you tell them that you have a few guest that are vegans they will come up with a menu for them. Just ask them!

Almost 15% of our guests chose the vegetarian option and not all of them are strict vegetarians. The other option was a duet of beef and chicken and some guests just didn't want that much meat. Our vegetarian option was delicious.
