If it's a vow renewal you just need someone that feels comfortable speaking in public. You can literally find tons of scripts online. Heck, you don't even need an officiant at all. You and your husband can just reaffirm your commitment to each other,

Come on Celia, Chelsea knows she made a mistake. There's no need to rub her nose in it. Clearly she's already upset.

Best wishes in finding an officiant/individual that can help you with your vow renewal! It will all be okay in the end.

Thank you guys, I guess it's an easier fix as a vow renewal. Yes we are already married. We are one of those military couples who are having a celebration of marriage a year after.

ETA: I will figure this out!

Sorry you are going through this so close to your event. If I were you, I'd just skip the ceremony and have the party.

Wait this is a vow renewal? Eta: Glad it isn't tour actual wedding ceremony, that would really suck. I hope people use this as an example to 1. ALWAYS have a contract. 2. DON'T use friendors!

@Renee yes I agree with the contract part I've already agreed with Celia there, but this was not a friendor.

ETA: honestly this is just as sucky to me on a personal level as anything though. This is the first time we've gathered with any family in a year and they are so excited to witness the renewal. I feel terrible it won't be perfect for them.

Didn't you say this was a friend?

@Renee, no. Above I mentioned that at this point, as I've been contacting professionals for hours with no luck, I am falling back to see if an ordained friend will help me out and do this in a pinch. I know it's not ideal, but honestly it's better than nothing at this point right?

Alright, I stand corrected. Sorry about that. At this point a friend would be the best option.

No worries Renee! I know it's confusing, I'm just hoping to get it worked out asap so I can go back to being happy and excited instead of worried.

Don't be worried; the worst case scenario isn't even a factor; you're married legally and that's a huge relief.

    Where are you located?

@Celia thank you. It is a relief on our part. At the end of the day I am still married. I'm just worried about screwing it up for my loved ones. This is for them, not us. I hope we find a fill in that makes it wonderful.

    I am in Indiana.

For a vow renewal, it doesn't matter who you ask. You can give your own vows without someone officiating.

Also check and see if a notary can in your state. But I agree if it's a renewal you should be ok

OP, thankfully this is a vow renewal...that's IS a huge relief. As for making it perfect for guests...there is no such thing & honestly, I doubt anyone will know that the officiating person wasn't who you originally chose. Just breathe...and enjoy the day : )

Sending good vibes your way. I hope you find someone you are happy with. But luckily you are already married and I'm sure your guests' experience won't be ruined because you had to swap out the officiant last minute. Smiley smile
