    Did you have a contact?

What?! I am so sorry this is happening so close.

I hope there was a good reason? What does it say in the contract you have with this person regarding cancellations?

Was there a contract here? Was there a backup plan in the contract?

Did you have a contract? What's the reason? I know that is extremely disappointing, frustrating, and stressful! The only bright side is should you not be able to find another professional officiant in the next few days, worst comes to worst anyone can be ordained and you WILL get married! This is one of those things that sucks but can still be worked around! Good luck op and brief us on what happens in your BAM!

Get off WW and start calling!!!

This would be one of those rare occasions it might be OK to have a close friend or family member that is used to speaking in front of crowds get ordained just for you......

That sucks. Why would he cancel? Does he know anyone who could do it in his place?

Did you ask your officiant to find or recommend a backup? Start with that.

Since you have so little time, start calling all officiants in your area to see if they have availability. Look for JOPs or judges that conduct weddings part time.

If you can't find anyone, you can get married at the courthouse and have a friend or family conduct the ceremony. Or just have a reception.

    Good luck!!

I know I'm going to get so much flack from WW on this. No contract. He has interviews for a job he cannot get out of. I know friendors are frowned upon, but as of now I'm waiting to hear back from my friend who is ordained because the only other local minister was an invited guest and he rsvp'd no to the wedding as he has family coming out of town.

Shouldn't all officiants have a back up person they call on in if they are sick or for example involved in an accident on the day?

You can always google someone. In my state they have a few that take 24 hour calls

@VC I am asking my ordained friend last minute is because I've been on the phone for the last few hours and nobody is available this weekend. Its a vow renewal, so idk if someone technically even needs to be ordained for this? I'm sorry guys, I'm just so upset.

Stop it Naomi. Depending on where OP is located not "anyone" can be ordained, okay?

Sweet tap dancing Jesus... why do you guys do this to yourselves? OP, yes you're going to get flack because you left the most important thing you need fast and loose. Without a contract.

I know, that's not helpful. Sorry to make you an object lesson, but it needs to be said for the benefit of others.

Your "officiant" should have scheduled the interviews at another time. To my knowledge, those conversations start with, "Are you available to come in on X date?" "No, I am not, but I can come in on X X X X X dates."

For starters, call the minister you know who backed out and ask if he can spend literally an hour away from his out of town guests to bail you out. And be prepared to pay.

Then call everyone you can find online, word of mouth, your venue, your other venues and see if they have suggestions. We all have little pockets of time that aren't booked.

Worst case? Have a party and do the ceremony afterwards.

No. For a vow renewal, you don't need a legal person.

I feel like it's weird that someone would have a job interview on a Saturday let alone interviews as in plural.

@Celia, thank you. And yes, make an example out of me. I wouldn't want any other person to be going through this right now. I know it's my fault. I just can't stop crying.
