Off-site babysitting for an adults only wedding: Good Idea or no?

We're toying with an adults-only wedding because if all family members want to bring their children, we will be WELL over our 175 limit. Should we provide off-site baby sitting? I love my cousins and their kids, but we would be very limited on inviting friends. Or do we send out A-list invites and then B list after we get a head count from the "A-listers?"

At a cousin's wedding there were no children "invited". My sister had given birth just weeks previously and was nursing, so she brought her infant with her to the reception. It was so loud you wouldn't have noticed if the baby had screamed (not cool at the ceremony, so she didn't have the baby there).

We made arrangements for a family member from the other side of the family to watch my 3 daughters and my nephew at the hotel room where we were staying. It worked out very well.

I did notice that there were other children at the wedding/reception but I never would've dreamed of saying anything. Who knows what the situation was?

I would say that most people are going to want/need to make their own arrangements, but there are new mommies who may want to bring an infant and you need to decide whether it is more important for that person to be there, or for there to be no children with no exceptions. I would say that *most* parents would be very conscientious about taking out a little one who was being loud, or not allowing an older child to run amok (but then again, I have seen some awful behavior from adults and children alike). Best wishes!

Congratulations on your wedding! I see it is sometime in September. My daughter does not want to invite any children under the age of 10. There are several close cousins who have younger children and I was also thinking of hiring a babysitter or two. Did you end up doing that and how was the offer received? Thanks!

We decided not to provide babysitting at this point. I was able to incorporate two of my cousins children into the service, but other than the ring bearers, no other children are invited. Most of my friends reported they like the idea of a night without their children
