October or November wedding date? Help!

kristenann, on October 30, 2013 at 10:02 AM Posted in Planning 0 22

My fiancee and I just chose our wedding venue after a long, 2 month search with about 10 different venues. We finally chose Le Meridien in Philadelphia!

I contacted Le Meridien to inform them that we chose their hotel to host our wedding and asked about discounted dates. She originally told me September 13th, but we are hesitant as that's now only 10 months away. So then she gave us two more dates: October 18th and November 15th.

I don't really have a preference and my fiancee told me to choose whichever one I liked better. I need help!

Has anyone planned their wedding or had their wedding in either month? What did you like and what didn't you like about those months? What did you do for your honeymoon?

In October you will probably have more of the fall foliage, which would be nice for pictures. We originally wanted October, but it wouldn't work with FH work schedule. November is the start of the off-season discounts at my venue, so we are saving some money this way, too!

10 months is plenty of time to plan.

If October hasn't over-taken June as the most popular month to marry, it's close. Thus, prices can be more expensive. You'll get better deals in November.

For some strange reason I always thought a late fall wedding would be really nice. That's how I ended up with November and the 30th just worked for everyone involved.

We aren't taking a honeymoon until June. FH is a music teacher and December is his busiest month of the school year. It just seemed like a lot to me anyway, selling a house (mine), buying a house (together), planning a wedding, and then going on a honeymoon right away. Plus, I have two school-age children. A delayed honeymoon isn't my idea of the ideal, but it's okay.

I'm getting married in 9 days. November worked out best for me but keep in mind that it is close to the holiday season so some out of town people may not have the extra vacation days to attend your wedding.

I'm getting married next November at an indoor location. I realize that it will be raining (I'm getting married in Vancouver, BC) so I picked a venue that is indoors and will be researching photo spots that are also indoors. I'm hoping to use fall decorations.

My FH and I will actually take our honeymoon in May 2015 but that's because we want to go to Scotland, which is terrible in the winter. If you're wanting to go somewhere warm and tropical, November/December is a great time to do that to get away from the cold weather!

That's great that they are giving you discounted rates on Saturdays. I agree that 10 months really is enough time to plan. Do you have an aversion to the 13th? My wedding was end of September and it was perfect temps. Do you want outdoor photos? That's something to consider. By November, it will probably be too cold to do so.

We had the choice of October or November and we went with November.

It's still pretty hot during October in South east Texas. I would choose it being cold, over being hot and humid, any day. If the weather is nicer up there in October though, I would say October.

I would go with October. It's cold in Philadelphia in November right? I'd prefer it to not be so cold, but that's just me. Some people love the cold.

We're getting married the same weekend as the November date you can pick. We're in New England, but we're not worried about the weather (we can do pictures inside if it's too cold). We're getting a HUGE discount by having our wedding on a November Sunday.

Our engagement is 14 months. I think 10 months is enough time, but you can't really dawdle in terms of booking vendors.

I'd go for October. The November date is a little too close to Thanksgiving, and I think most people like to have a little breather in between events. Plus, then you may be on your honeymoon during thanksgiving. Might not be a deal breaker for you, but I wouldn't be in love with it.

You all bring up great points! We're not going with September because we wanted that extra month to save since we're paying for the wedding ourselves.

@Lauren- that's my hesitation with November! My MOH lives in Chicago and flies in every year for Thanksgiving, so I don't want her going travel crazy, especially when she has a 2 year old.

Philadelphia does start to get pretty cold in November as well. Our ceremony is inside, so it's not a huge deal. We do want outside photos, as Center City and Old City has great parks and historic buildings.

... It may come down to a game of rock, paper, scissor with my fiancee!

October will be the better choice. As to honeymoon, have you ever thought of Hongkong? It is a very beautiful city!

My nephew got married in Phila. in early Oct. last year. The weather was nice for most of the weekend, but we did have 1 rainy, chilly day. Nov. would be worse.

I am getting married November 1st, I wanted October badly but with paying for the wedding ourselves and November being a "discounted" month we chose the 1st. As close as we could get to October. The colours are to die for then.

For your area up north, I would pick the October Date because your fall foliage hits early. By November the leaves would be gone. I vote October!

I would do October. I'm from South Jersey and my friend got married last year in Novemeber. She one had to take the pictures before the ceremony because it got dark at like 4:30 and she was also extremelly cold and so were her bridemaids.

I will be honest with you. Pick October because right now it's the start of the holidays and they just catered pizza at work. I got to eat a "delicious" salad for lunch while everyone chowed down on pizza.
