October in the Caribbean?

October is the end of hurricane season. I wouldn't worry about it. I live in Key West and booked my wedding in the middle of hurricane season and going to St.lucia right afterward our wedding.

Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao are all out of the hurricane belt and should be your safest bet.

Your wedding is at the beginning of October-- towards the tail end of the most active part of hurricane season in September. I would be very hesitant to visit any of the more easterly islands during that time. While the chances of an island actually being hit aren't that high, the problem is that if they are hit, they don't really have the resources or infrastructure to deal with the aftermath should there be a direct hit. As I understand it peak season is from mid August to Late October. Hurricane season is my favorite time to travel to the Caribbean (with travel insurance of course). It is less crowded and much cheaper. However, I don't think I would take that chance with my honeymoon... because having to postpone in that particular case would be so disappointing.

It's still a pretty slim chance and you would probably be fine.... but as Barbara mentioned you might want to go further south. Have you considered destinations in Central America? If you are looking for a large all inclusive resort with entertainment etc then that might not be your best bet... but there are AMAZINGLY luxurious and romantic small boutique resorts in Costa Rica, Panama, etc that are a tiny fraction of the price of what you would pay on most Caribbean islands... without the hurricane risk.

Thanks for the info everyone! Much appreciated. I've been doing a little research and I think we may stick to the ABC islands, or Grenada. Definitely no further north than Trinidad and Tobago. The Weather Channel is predicting a mild hurricane season, but I definitely see the merit in being more safe than sorry.

Many meteorologists are predicting a mild hurricane season b/c it is supposed to be an El Nino year. But GWO (the most accurate prediction agency) is predicting a bad season. El Nino seasons generally lead to FEWER hurricanes, but not less severe (Andrew happened in an El Nino year )
