nye Reception Start Time ?

Hello all ,

My FH and I are planning a France elopement with a NYE party/reception . The guest won’t be aware we are married prior to this event except our parents and a handful of friends . The way we plan to tell the guest is by playing a little movie/photos from France and we will make an entrance in our ceremony attire . With that being said the guest will be invited thinking it’s a NYE party only. So we are having a hard time determining the start time of the event . I think we should start at 9pm with a 3 course sit down meal and my FH says 10pm with finger foods . As a guest would you want such a heavy meal that late in the night or finger foods ? TIA

Ooooh this sounds so fun! I love your plan, it's so unique and playful. Definitely a wedding your guests are never going to forget.
So when I think of NYE, I think of a lot of drinking, dancing and good food that I graze on for most of the night. My vote is for a 9pm start, with heavy finger foods throughout the night. Maybe as everyone is leaving, send them off with a basket of fries or something hot for them to enjoy after the celebrations are over. If you're looking to achieve a little more of a "traditional" wedding atmosphere, I would go with the 9pm start with a 3 course tasting dinner, that way the courses are a bit smaller. I think 10 is really late to ask people to come out.

I would rather have heavy finger food. i guess because that late in the night i don't know if i'd want a heavy meal.

It sounds fun until we started the actual planning . Lol It will be hard to keep a secret especially when everyone is assuming we are doing a NYE wedding .
