ny summer and fall 2020 Brides?

Grace, on May 11, 2020 at 1:59 PM Posted in New York Planning 2 10
NY brides I want to hear what area you are having/planning your wedding in and when, as well as what your doing to continue as planned, postpone or cancel! I saw Gov. Cuomos broadcast today and majority of the state is ready to prepare to enter phase 1 by 5/15.

Though NY is going to start to enter phases within the month this does not mean that we are ready for large gatherings. My wedding was supposed to be June 20th in NY, but we decided to postpone because having 150 people in once place is simply not safe in June. I think late summer weddings could happen depending on how many people are to be invited. Fall weddings I feel will happen, but again depends on what this virus is going to do. Such a stressful time!!

That's exciting to hear. I'm in NJ so hopefully once you guys start entering into phases we will be too. My wedding is set for October 10th and I'm hoping and praying everyday that it can still happen!

We postponed our 7/18 wedding to next summer, but we are getting married on LI, which doesn't meet the criteria to reopen on 5/15 (and now it looks like Cuomo may extend the LI and NYC stay-at-home order to June 7th). If I recall correctly, the plan is for large gatherings to take place in phase 4, which should occur 8 weeks after your region re-opens if all goes well. So NY may be okay by the fall! I think it is certainly possible. Good luck to you!

    Hi, and welcome!

As pps have said, it all depends on what part of the state you're in.

NYC/LI/metro region are likely to take a lot longer than upstate, as we were just hit harder. However, weddings seem to be balanced between phase 3 and phase 4 - gatherings and entertainment. Bigger weddings are probably going to be harder to get cleared with venues and local officials.

That said - we are clearly making progress! Best advice we have: Have a Plan B, be flexible, and don't make decisons until you *have* to.

    Good luck!

My wedding only has 18 guests I'm in August so I feel like I should be okay, but I'm still watching the news everyday just in case.

Hi Grace! I think there's some recent info in this discussion: ny state guidance on weddings available!

Thank you! It still seems very vague. And I’ve heard some venues are doing only 50 people and some are doing 50%?

I've heard this in several different states as well! I think it's based on whether your venue falls under restaurant & bar guidelines vs. indoor / outdoor gathering guidelines - but I don't know who makes that determination!
