My FH is the same he has no credit me on the other hand I have to much.. LOL (not really but seems like it) Start off by getting a credit card from like a jewelry store. It may be only for $300 but charge something and pay it off. Look into secured credit cards, you might have to pay $200 towards it right away but that will also help.

Look into a secured credit card.

FH started off with a secure credit card of 500 dollars. In one year he was then offered a 5k credit limit and given the money back. You just need to make sure the payments are always on time.

Either a secured credit card or try a store card like Macy's or Target.

Every time you make a purchase, pay it right off and it will help your credit.

If I am not mistaken, capital one, has some good "first time" credit cards - I got mine in college and still have it...

Talk to the bank you have your savings and checking through. If you have a decent history with them they'll probably be a good place to get a secure credit card.

Go with capital one. I got my first card ($300 limit) with them 14 years ago and still have the same card, but a much higher limit now.

Try department stores. Normally, department stores will have a credit card. (JCPenny, Sears, Victoria's Secret )

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you have to have three lines of credit for a house.

    Credit card

Bank loan (You can get a small loan of $1000 and pay it back within a year.)

Car loan (Be a cosigner, maybe a parent wants to buy a car.)

Title loan (This normally has to be paid back quick.)

Try First Premier Bank. It's not an ideal card, but it gets you started.

Noooo title loan! The interest on those is crazy, and totally not worth it.

No credit is unfortunately almost as "bad" as bad credit :/ i put bad in quotes because it's not really bad.. it just makes it very difficult to do anything like get a car loan or a house or anything. or to get credit cards ironically.

you don't happen to be a student, are you? if so, there are student credit cards out there. they usually require a cosigner, usually a parent does this but it can be anyone with good credit.

i agree with capital one. not sure which one you tried but specifically capital one platinum is good. they approve with fair to poor credit and raise your credit amount after 5 or 6 on time payments. high interest rate but that's to be expected.

keep in mind the more credit cards you apply for the lower your credit score gets. i'm not sure how that works if you have no credit to begin with? it doesn't lower your score a ton, but it does have an effect.

store cards are generally more lenient.. american eagle, victorias secret, kay jewelers...

Don't apply for a ton of cards. each time they check your credit within a certain period of time it drops your score 5 points. do you have a checking account and write checks? I believe things like not bouncing a check help, at least enough that you should be able to get a credit card to build it more. if you're looking for a card to get, Target's will save you 5% on anything you buy there, and I have heard good things about Victoria's Secret as well (they send you coupons for your birthday, give you extra off at sales, etc.). Not sure about Kay Jewelers for building credit though, FH and I looked into getting their card (just because it would have saved us 10% on our rings), and they don't actually check your credit, they base it off income etc. I'm not sure if they report to credit bureaus and if they don't, it won't affect your credit score.

If you have no credit rather than bad credit start off with capital one. They are usually good.

I got turned away by every bank except for Citi's student card. They now use their Forward card as their student card, and I like it, you just can't upgrade it later to a different, which is why I now have two Citi cards.

I agree with a store card! I have a New York and Company card and that is it. But I got enough credit from that to buy my home!

Capital One does have a good started card. And if you're a student or have a bank account somewhere try there too. Don't go crazy on running your credit though because every inquiry could take a couple points off. And each inquiry stays on your credit for a period of two years. We just bought a house and our credit was super important. And like @tiffanyLF said, a jewelery store is a good starter. I believe it takes up to 6 months to establish credit. My very first card was a Daniel's jewelers card to build my credit and then the capital one card. Good luck!! Smiley smile

I started out with a secured credit card that I had to put a $350 deposit down for. Remember that applying for tons of credit cards and being declined will also lower your credit score. Most banks will be able to tell you before applying if you will be approved or not.

Excellent customer service by Master Credit. Extremely satisfied with the financial assistance provided and the customer service that exceeded my high expectations and request. Thank you for going beyond the typical customer service trend. It's very evident that this company cares and values your business. I got rid of all negative items on my report and my credit score went up from a 413 to a 783 within a few business days ( Mastercreditfix@gmail com)
