NWR: Upper Lip Waxing?

*~*June2011*~*, on November 16, 2010 at 9:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 27

Funny subject. but serious question!

Do any of you ladies wax or shave your upper lip? I am seriously contemplating waxing mine. I think only I notice it as it's not that much, but it bothers me!!! For those that have done it, does it grow back the same or worse?

Opinions, please!!

Yup I wax mine once a week. I go once a week because if I keep it close togather my skin gets used to it and it doesn't hurt if I go a few weeks then it's like I forget and I'm all OUCH lol but serously it's not that bad it's more annoying than anything. I can take pain but annoying is my little pet peeve lol. It doesn't grow back nearly as much. Nobody understands why I get mine done but I see the hair and I know it's there and it bothers me, enough said. It's like getting your nails done, it just makes you feel better about yourself.

OH I hate Nair... I tried it once and it gave me such a bad chemical burn that I still have a tiny scar from but I've heard it doesn't bother that many ppl but for me that stuff is pure EVIL.

One of my bridesmaids recently told me she actually does shave her upper lip! I was astounded. She's a gorgeous girl and a.) I never dreamed she would need to and b.) I never noticed any kind of stubble or thicker growth as I imagined comes with the territory. She said the stigma against shaving for women is causing all of us undue pain and expense, and that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. She claims her hair does not grow back any thicker at all, which I guess makes sense. The hair on my upper leg never gets as thick as my lower leg.

I do. Mine isn't TOO noticeable, just at the edges there are a couple dark hairs. I've always gotten my eyebrows waxed, and then one day they suggested I do my lip, so I did. Mine hasn't become any thicker or darker. But I do do it regularly now, just because I like the way it looks. I get it done usually whenever I do my eyebrows, but I don't always have to and sometimes I skip it.

I've been waxing my upper lip for years. It doesn't grow in any thicker or coarser than before. I only get it done about every 2 months or so and it only cost $5-$7. It's no biggie, you're in and out in 2 minutes and you go on your marry way. I say do it.

So most of the time, for those of you who do get waxed, it doesn't grow back any thicker or more noticeable? I'm seriously thinking about doing it today when I go get my eyebrows done! Thanks, ladies!

No. See, the way the lady explained it to me was like this..

If you have thick course dark hairs now, it'll grow back that way. If you don't, chances are it'll grow back faster, but not different in texture.

I use Sally Hansen creme hair remover with no ill effects. No difference in the regrowth.

Doesn't waxing cause premature aging of the skin on the face, though?

No, the hair comes back the same as it always has. I have never liked the hair removal creams because it smells like burning hair *yuck* and it's right under your nose *bleh*. go for the wax...all the way!

I get it done, it's takes a second and is over before you know it. If you are considering it for the wedding, I would do it about a week in advance to avoid any skin reaction, or if it does react, to allow it to recover.

I've tried everything except shaving because I was told it comes in thicker... and myth or not I wasn't willing to try... being hispanic I'm very hairy LOL and I hate it .. My favorite method is threading.. its way better than tweezing and I had one girl burn me with a wax it looked horrible for a couple of weeks and then like everyone has said the chemical creams smell nasty...

Unique- I want to get mine done also! i really think i'm going to try it today and if I don't like it, i just won't do it anymore. Most people I've asked in addition to the girls On WW, said it doesn't grow back any more noticeable or thicker! So hey, I'll try! it's been bothering me for weeks now, because like I said, I notice it even if no one else does.

I get my lip threaded. Though i have comtiplated shaving. I think i was watching Real Housewives of NJ and the older sister shaves her whole face. She made a good point...that she is smooth all the time and the shaving is used as her exfoliating, so her skin is nice and clear and smooth.

I bleach mine. The hair is pretty blond to begin with, but it's preventative maintenance...

I have been getting it done for years. I usually go like every 3 weeks or so. It doesn't grow back any thicker or darker.
