Hi, I've never actually been to one and especially one like this. My BIL is having one for his birthday. Now on the invite it says that you have to pay $10 pp to atttend if your not getting tatted and bottles are appreciated. Oh please park on the street so you don't get towed. And this is in their apartment. Now I have questions what is the $10 for? I'm not getting a tattoo so would it be wise for my hubby and I to get a birthday card and put $20 in it? I'm not paying $20 entrance to apartment party and buying the birthday boy a bottle of his favorite alcohol. This seems like a money making venture to me. IJS.

The ten dollars is probably to pay the tattoo artist, I'm assuming he/she isn't going to be working for free, and asking each guest for a small sum, like ten dollars is an easy way to pay for the tattoo artist.

I have been to a ton of tattoo parties. Thats where I got majority of my 9 tattoos. I have no problem with the fee because I know I will be getting tattoos for 1/2 (if not less) then what I would have paid in the shop.

As the previous posters stated, the fee is usually to pay the artists. Most of the time, the artists is paid up front by the host (or a deposit) and the entrance fee is to reimburse the host. If I am hosting the party, I am not paying for you to get a tattoo. I paid to get him here, and you are paying a small portion to get an awesome tattoo at a discounted price.

Honestly, if I am not getting a tattoo I am not going. What's the point? If you are into tattoos, the fee would be nothing, thats just how tattoo parties work.

Well from what I've been told by BIL wife, the $10 is admission to their apt period for those not getting tattoed. And for those who are getting tatts done, they have the pay the artist whatever the fees are for their specific design.

And yes, this party was thrown together and hubby and I want to go elsewhere as well. He wants to support his Brother but not spend all not cramped up watching ppl get tatts!

Yes with this being a birthday party, it seems a little off to me.

And as far as the wedding, and if the father can't afford to pay for the daughter's wedding. I wouldn't think it's ok to ask all family and friends to fund it. IJS!

That's like having a Mary K. Party or a DJ @ your home party, Are you going to ask everyone to pay you back for getting a dj? And also ask for ppl to gift you alcohol bottles?

His asking that was meant as a Joke since everyone was saying don't ask PPL for stuff if you are hosting.

I do stay away from them, but of course I don't have any friends that would consider throwing one and treating their friends like that.

Ummm... the $10 fee is for those who aren't getting tattoos.

I have tatts also but went to a shop to get it done. I have nothing against them. Just asking about this Particular party set up. Thanks!

Generally when someone host a tattoo party they charge a cover to cover the cost if the artist is charging a set up fee. Bringing a bottle I think is more like a gift for the bday boy. I've been to tattoo parties where there was a cover and food & drinks were provided and one where no cover but food & drinks still provided. Generally price is discounted at a party then just going into a shop so even with a cover you still come out cheaper. FH is a tattoo artist and whether he tatts at home or in shop still follows all procedures and guidlines. Saftey is our number one priority.

If you are not comfortable then decline the invite. But think of it as what if he had a birthday dinner at a restaurant you would pay for your meal. or at a club u would pay to get in and prob drinks too.

Um I'd decline too. Something just doesn't seem right about a tat party in an apartment but this is a comment from someone that doesn't have a single tat.

FWIW, I have no issues with those who are getting tats being charged, although I don't get the idea of a tattoo party but I don't like the one I have and would never encourage anyone to get one so that's just a preference of mine. I do find it insulting though that the ones who AREN'T getting a tattoo done have to pay cover, there is something wrong there.

@Mrs.B-Baby if you truly have a problem with it maybe you can suggest that your husband ask if he is available on such and such a date so that the two of you can take him out to dinner tp celebrate his bday.. this way DH gets to celebrate his brothers bday but not have to sit thru everyones tatts..

I think whoever issued the invitation did not word it correctly, and I really don't think someone who isn't getting inked should have to pay. The host should get a count of how many people are getting inked and either pay the "setup" fee themselves or split it equally between everyone who is getting inked.

Nothing wrong with BYOB, I ALWAYS bring my own, partly because I'm a beer snob annnnnd I don't like taking things that aren't mine unless I am offered. I would NEVER expect someone to "cater" to me. Would I enjoy it? Hells yea, but I would never expect it and I always offer to bring something to share. I guess us Minnesotans are TACKY!

@ Victoria, great suggestion. I will see. If not, then I'll compromise, and go as I said and we'll stay for awhile and then go hang out our style LOL!!

Interesting... Must be a regional thing because I haven't been to a SINGLE party ever that wasn't BYOB. Granted, we're in our mid to late twenties so maybe that is a factor, but I would never expect my friends to get me drunk if they're hosting a gathering at their house. Although, many times people bring bottles of liquor and are more than happy to share, but it's never expected and everyone always brings their own stuff.

As far as tattoo parties... Everyone I know who has been to one has gotten really shitty tattoos, and I don't know any good tattoo artist that would actually do this.

Horrible tat's can happen in a shop too!!! I went to a party with the intention of just getting a cover up done... 11 hrs later I had a full side tat. All needles were opened in front of me. The inks were used only on me. If the artist is a professional they will follow all guidelines no matter where they have set up for the night. Am so not offended to pay a small fee. Now the alcohol for me, but I had not expected it. Wouldn't have bothered me to bring my own. I'm a bit picky about what I like to drink.
