NWR: Stupid 'No eating after midnight' rule for day surgery. Rant

Leesha, on March 10, 2015 at 11:35 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

I dont know about you, but I am a breakfast person. I NEED my breakfast in the morning or I seriously do not function right. I am having all four wisdom teeth surgically removed at 12. & i am STARVING right now haha Smiley sad Its only 830 and all I want is two boiled eggs a piece of toast and an apple haha fml Smiley sad This rule sucks Smiley sad I understand the reasoning behind not eating, but damn. I have not ate since 9PM last night haha ;( I am PMS-y on top of all of this boooo lol I think the worst part about this, is that I still am not going to be able to eat afterwards haha Smiley sad

Happy Tuesday Everybody Smiley smile!

Thanks for letting me complain lol

I hear ya. My blood sugar gets dangerously low myself.

But I would rather that than aspirate while on anesthesia.

OMG! I know what you're saying. I don't think Drs should schedule surgeries after like 10 am. When I had my knee surgery, they told me I couldn't eat or drink anything after midnight (like you) and my surgery was at 4:30 pm!?! I almost died of starvation.

It would have been different had a been able to sleep most of the day, but instead they needed me at work, so I woke up at 6 am and went alllllll dayyyyyy with nothing. Lunch was hard. My poor fiancé was scared of me hahaha

I had surgery a few weeks ago and couldn't eat or drink after midnight. The surgery wasn't until 2:30pm! UGHHHH I was miserable. I did cheat and drink some water around 6am, though. Not being able to drink was even worse than no food.

When I had a colonoscopy, you can't eat for more than 24 hours (you can have clear liquids). I think I had to go about 36 hours without eating (plus do the "prep"). It sucks but unless your teeth are impacted, you'll probably be OK to eat something (soft of course) afterward. I had all 4 removed and could eat pasta and stuff not long after. I think I slept off the anesthesia first.

The hardest part for me is always not being able to drink water. Good luck with the procedure today!
