I realize this is non-wedding related, but the wedding wire community is always helpful at advice. My husband and I moved into a new house that was recently built. There is a basketball hoop placed 2 inches from our property line in front of our property where we would like to park. We live on a VERY steep slope in the back that leads to a very large creek. Before we moved in, the ball went onto our property and rolled all the way behind our house where it is very steep to climb down. The boy went down after his ball, falling numerous times, hanging onto our house for balance. This has happened a few times. It is very dangerous because of the slope. The owner of the hoop lives across the street and down a little bit. We have a small garage that we are using for storage and won't be parking in. We would like to park in front of the house where this hoop is, which we have been doing since we moved in... (continued in comments)

    Now that I have read through all of the comments and your updates.....my theory is that she is upset that a house was built next to her. She had vacant land next door and will be pissy with anyone who took that free space away from her.

    To be honest....fuck her and her nasty attitude.

    It's not even next door to her house. It's across the street!

    @KathyR you are probably right. And I understand that. Its been a nice empty lot for her kids to do whatever they want. But it's time to face facts for her and realize that there are new neighbors with the same rights as everyone who has been there for 10 years.

    Thanks for the tips, ladies. Unfortunately, we will probably have to get security cameras and some strategic landscaping.

    Install security cameras. If you're home and see someone on the property, call the police and report the trespass.

    Build a fence. Park in front of the hoop until it is removed. Honestly I would buy a cheap clunker car off craigslist as a third car and permanently park it in front of the hoop until they move it.

    @Kreestan Love your profile picture, Regina Phalange Smiley winking

    @Sarah - I hear you! I'm thinking our next house will have much more land so we don't have to deal with people.

    @Coffeencolor we honestly thought about getting a junk car and parking it there. There are so many other places where this hoop makes more sense to be.

    I don't want to make any other neighbors irritated, but I get the sense they aren't too fond of the hoop either. The other people who play are like 5-6 houses down the street.

    I'm not sure what to do about the basketball hoop but please, please, please put up no trespassing signs. God forbid someone gets hurt getting their ball...it'll be on you. We had a issue where my parents lived and we were told to put up no traspessing signs. They kept ripping them down so we were told to put them back up and take pictures of them.

    I had a crazy lady live downstairs from me- so I get bad neighbors. So- I'd document what they are doing, and it was totally out of line for the mom to come at you. It just seems to her and the kids- that they always had it there and it's never been a problem--so you seem like a big meanie taking it away from them. That said- sounds like she'd take advantage of you the minute she got a chance. Do you have a drive way? I don't think you're being unreasonable- but yea contact the zoning board. That's ridiculous

    @Brittney -that's crazy! I can't believe they opened a gate. Kids don't have boundaries.

    It really has me thinking...the hoop is blocking half of the sidewalk and the sandbags that hold it down have spilled somewhat onto the sidewalk. If someone trips on the hoop, they would fall onto our property. With the way things are today, I can't trust that people wouldn't sue. And the second that happens, I'm sure the neighbors would be like "What hoop. That's not ours." Or what if the hoop falls on a car? Would that be my responsibility?
