NWR: Mooching friend rant

Private User, on April 11, 2015 at 7:00 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

My friend is seriously the biggest moocher I've ever met. Long stories short:

1) She steals food and clothing everytime she comes over.

2) My mom owns a lot of rental houses, she keeps asking "Can I stay at your moms rental house so I can get a discount?" Well no, she's kind of paying for an expensive ass wedding.

3) She asked if she could live with me and FH whenever we get our own place (We are currently remodeling our future home so we're staying with his mom) UMMM what makes you think an engaged couple wants a roommate?

4) "Will you buy this $400 kayak for me? I'll pay you back."

5) While I was out of town she THREW A POOL PARTY at MY POOL with all the people from high school that I was not friends with. Without asking me.... I found out when she posted pictures on social media.

    6) the other day she texted me and said "Can me, you, and Haley get in your hot tub later?" I say, "No I'm busy all night." "Oh well can we just come get in it without you??" Please note that her parents live less than a mile from me and have a hot tub.

7)She once asked me if she could get on my phone bill because it would be too expensive to have only herself on a bill. I know damn well I would never see a penny of her share. Obviously that was a no.

    8) When I was thinking about getting a new car she asked if she could use my old one. For free.

She also keeps asking me if shes my MOH. like no you'll probably expect me to house you until the wedding and buy you everything

Oh yeah. You're being used. But I'm also too nice to kick someone to the curb so I feel your pain. Good luck :/

She takes advantage because you allow it. She knows you won't complain.

I always tell her no everytime she asks something stupid, like all of the above. I don't know why she continues to ask. As for the time she had all those people at my house (And broke in through my doggy door by the way) I bitched at her and everyone there for weeks.

What in the actual fuck? I would have gotten her in major trouble for trespassing. Hands down. Who does that???

You must have said yes at one point to make her think she can ask those things of you.

If someone would have drowned in your pool while she used it while you were away you are aware you would be 100% at fault...let that sink in for a minute....

I have a friend sort of like this.

-i paid her half of a concert ticket (front row seats.. $400 a piece) and told her to just pay me back $20 a month. 3 years later and i haven't seen a dollar.

-got her a good job waitressing at my last job because she got fired from her pharmacy job for.. abusing pharmaceutical drugs.

-she quit that job because her "wrists hurt" and she couldn't handle doing side work or carrying a drink tray.

-got an interview for another pharmacy tech job and asked me to PEE IN A CUP FOR HER

-asked my FH if he would CO SIGN ON A CAR FOR HER.. lol no.

-asked if she could USE MY BANK STATEMENTS to get approved for an apartment.. wtf? NO!

she's an addict with no discipline to save money. i cant help her. i can only be her friend. unfortunately she only really is a friend when she needs something.

Is this real life? Wtf is wrong with people? Who does that? That's not normal. No, just no. And don't make her MOH! You'll end up doing everything.

OK, OP-- you say you are 'too nice' to kick her to the curb. Try telling yourself you're 'doing her a favor by letting her experience the consequences of such behavior'. Then cut her off. Just as the parents who give their children *everything* are doing those kids no favors, you are doing this woman no favors, nor yourself. Stand up for both of you.

I would try to brush her off slowly... I understand that you two have history and heck, probably the best of times.

I had a friend like that... It was hard, but eventually I responded to her texts less and kept myself busy with other people... eventually she sucked on to someone else!

It sounds like you got your shit together and she lives life a little too much on the edge..

It is not your job to carry her on your back, I might be just speculating... but its sounds like she's the type of person who has either had a hard life (and expects you to sympathize for her) or she is the type of person who blames other people for why she has nothing.

DONT fall for it. She is using you.

Please pick someone else as your MOH and don't let her guilt trip you! This is your wedding day!

**and if she is in your bridal party... have her stand furthest away so you can crop her out of pictures in the future..... (jk)

I had a friend like this... I can go on and on, but the worst she did was actually get on my phone bill (yes dumb decision on my part) and then she broke her phone and got sent a new one, all she had to do was send her phone back in the prepaid package and she NEVER did, so we got hit with a $500 dollar fee for the phone, and back then we couldn't afford to pay that, so we ended up getting our phones turned off and couldn't afford the reconnection fee. So, we lost our account and ended up with early disconnection fees, so at the end I owed the company about 1k all because her dumb ass couldn't mail out the phone!!! Ughhh. She promised to help pay me back, all I got was $20 from her. I gave up and eventually paid it off myself. After this happened I was DONE with her. I can't stand when "friends" try to take advantage.

I hate people like this because honestly she was raised wrong. Even those who take advantage don't go around asking friends for something ridiculous like a free car. She was probably enabled as a child & as a result has no sense of independence & responsibility. I grew up w/ a pool at my mom & dads house I had plenty of friends ask can we use yalls pool? Can we use the hot tub? Can we throw a party behind your parent's back. The answer was always. No. And we were likely teenagers. And we grew out of that. You want to throw a pool party go to a nice apartment complex in an adult area (typically not the burbs) and do it there. I wouldn't even confront ppl like her just delete her from your life.

I agree with all of you and also please note that the car thing happened in 2013 and my car is a 2012. she was basically asking for my practically brand new car. like no bitch i can still sell this thing for 18k. ugh, we both moved away for our first year of college and it was the best year of my life. unfortunately both of us moved back....

OH one more thing i just remembered. when i was in my college dorm i started buying things for my future house (so i wouldnt have to buy all these things at once) so i found a good deal on a basically brand new couch. bought it. she said "ill keep them till you get your own place!!!" i said "i didnt buy a practically brand new couch for it to be used when i finally get to use it." and she got mad.... LOL
