NWR Lasik Eye Surgery

TheeOne2Love, on May 22, 2017 at 3:22 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 35

Anyone had this done before the big day? ( or ever) My surgery is scheduled for Friday I am so nervous and excited at the same time. My vision is horrible. I have been wearing contact lenses for about 16 years. I can not wait to see clear ALL the time without worrying about it. How was your Surgery and recovery? Recovery advice?

Mine went well. I had it done when I was 19, and my eyes have slowly changed since then (I was warned) so I'm back in low prescription glasses. Recovery lasted a few days before my eyes didn't feel itchy again, and I had black eyes for a few days. Wear the sun glasses and follow what they say.

My mom just got hers done last month. The day of the surgery you have to sleep the entire rest of the day to heal. My mom said that the day after was pretty bad because your vision has to readjust and she had really bad headaches. Now that the healing process is done, she's really happy she did it. She still has to use reading glasses but besides that, she's doing great! It's worth it! Good luck!

I had mine done about 10 years ago when I was in college. I had glasses since I was in 3rd grade and then contacts from 6th grade onward. It is TOTALLY worth it to get LASIK!

The procedure was just fine, I didn't feel any discomfort. Recovery was fine too, had slightly itchy eyes but they gave me drops to use as often as I needed. Other than that it was a total breeze!

It's so wonderful to be able to see without putting something either in my eye or in front of it! I barely remember what it's like to have to put in contacts daily.

    Good luck!

I'm almost 2 years post surgery. I had a longer recovery time than standard Lasik (I had PRK) and I would still do it again in a heartbeat. One of the best decisions I ever made.

Thank you all. I have it in the morning on Friday. I plan to lay around the rest of the day listening to audio books with my eyes closed. They say it should last between 6-12 years and I did purchase the lifetime warranty so that if it ever needs correction again it will be covered. I am glad I chose Friday the holiday weekend since I will have a long weekend. They said I should be ok in 24 hours. I was wondering about pain during the procedure though. Hopefully its tolerable.

@OliviaP i haven't heard any from anyone i know personally but i would love to hear both sides. Everyone i know who has gotten it raves about the results. Those with PRK hated the recovery but said it was worth it.

You will be in and out of the room in less than 30 mins and in a recovery area for maybe an hour then you will get to go home. They get you in and out pretty quick.

I had it done about 4 years ago. Definitely follow their advice to take it easy. The pain during the surgery wasn't terrible, but I wish I had taken some Zanex or other to calm my nerves. Other than that the only thing that was annoying was the many eye drops multiple times a day, and not being able to wear any eye makeup for about a month to prevent irritation.

I will say that it was totally life changing (I had glasses since age 7 and contacts since age 12), but I also suffer with chronic dry eye symptoms which did not change after the surgery - I just didn't have to deal with the horrendous contacts pain which is awesome!

I just got it done on April 6th! I had horrible vision, -6.00 in both eyes. I can now see with 20/15 vision!

I was pretty nervous when I went to have it done, they had to give me an extra valium because I couldn't calm down lol. The whole thing took about 20 minutes, and I was on my way home with FH. I was really tired from the valium and went right to sleep when I got home (which they recommend).

They definitely should be giving you something like this to calm you down- and if they aren't, I would honestly suggest looking into going to another doctor. I could not have gone through the surgery without the valium. I would compare it to being abducted by aliens- your vision goes black during the procedure and all you can see are lights at times. It's not that painful, just a weird experience.

I had to wear glasses all night so I don't think I would've been able to listen to audiobooks. The next day when I woke up, I could see perfectly. It was a crazy feeling. Sometimes it still doesn't feel real and I find myself reaching for my glasses when I wake up.

I HIGHLY recommend it if glasses/contacts bother you, like they did for me. 2 months later and I'm still seeing 20/15 (I had a follow up apt last week).

The only downside was I had some light sensitivity the first week or two, and I had really really bad halos around lights at night, so I couldn't drive at night for like the first 3 weeks. That has all gone away though and I'm seeing with no issues now. You'll definitely be all set to go back to work after the long weekend. FH and I went to our cake tasting the day after my surgery.

Just FYI, you also have to do eye drops like every hour the first few days. After that, 3-4 times a day for the first few months. I don't have dry eye at all but I've still been using them to help with the healing.

Good luck!! You're going to love being able to see!

ETA- I saw another user posted that she couldn't wear makeup. I couldn't wear makeup for 5 days after my surgery, then I was able to. I had it done on Thursday and was wearing makeup to work on Tuesday Smiley smile

I got it done about 6 years ago and could not have spent my money any better! The only part that sucked is after I left the office the numbing drops wore off and my eyes hurt so bad for one hour. After that hour I felt fine and kind of was thinking "why was I such a baby about this." When I woke up the next day I had perfect vision. Every morning since when I can wake up and see my clock it's like a "oh yeah so worth it"

Your doctor should be giving you something to calm your nerves. You should NOT be taking anything without them prescribing it, or talking to them about it. If you take a drug that can affect your blood pressure or anything, this can affect the surgery! Are you sure the doctor isnt giving you anything? I have never heard of anyone getting lasik without medication like valium, in all the research that I did.

I second Lucille's comment on recommending a good eye surgeon, yes you can find it cheaper but..it's your eyes. I went to Vance Thompson as well and would recommend them

I had mine done in September. I had been wearing glasses/contacts for 15 years. The surgery is uncomfortable but if you're okay with eye drops you will be fine.

They will put numbing drops in your eyes and let them sit for a bit. Then they put more in a few minutes later. They lay you down on the table and have you look at a red light. There will be some pressure and you will see them move your lens which is kind of weird. It takes 15-20 min. The meds they give you to sleep, knock you out. Whooo I slept for 4 hours when I got home and when I woke up, it was AMAZING! I could see! My pain meds started to wear off on my way home from the doctor so that was a bit painful but afterwards, it was great!!! Good luck!!

    Edit: spelling

Would anyone be willing to share a cost estimate? I'm almost -7.00 in glasses, so it'd be great to budget for something like that. The only people I know who've had it done did it 10 years ago, and their vision was a lot better than mine going in.

My fiance was terrified. I went with him and told him to shut up or I was going to take his place Smiley winking He had the surgery 2 months ago, smooth sailing, no regrets. Good luck on Friday!
