Anyone have any good ones? I would like to come in super late tomorrow (like 4 hours late - like a half day) because I have a job interview, but I can only think of: -sick (out all day) -car trouble (my boss has seen my car and knows it's only a few years old so is less likely to believe it) -doc...

Anyone have any good ones? I would like to come in super late tomorrow (like 4 hours late - like a half day) because I have a job interview, but I can only think of:

-sick (out all day)

-car trouble (my boss has seen my car and knows it's only a few years old so is less likely to believe it)

-doc appt (used that last month)

Help! Otherwise I'll just have to call in sick and miss the whole day, blech.

**I'm just going to take a "sick day." Thanks, ladies!

Well I have to call in in the morning and give a reason I won't be at work. Yeah maybe I'll just take the day rather than getting tangled in a web of lies lol

FLOODED DISHWASHER! you have to get the water shut off, wait for a repair guy etc. it may even buy you another half day when you "need a new one delivered"

I would just take the day. Even if your conscience doesn't bother you, lying is complicated.

I guess it's not that I HAVE to give a reason, but I work in a small office with really nice people so we all know each other's business and care about each other so if I call out they will just ask me, "Oh, is everything OK?"

Alright guys I'll just call it a sick day. I don't need any worse karma by making up a complicated lie, lol.

I would take the whole day off. You don't want to rush the interview or have it in the back of your mind that you have a set period of time to interview. Some companies will introduce you to someone who wasn't on the itinerary and will prolong it- which can be a good sign. Good Luck!

I'm just sayin' some appointments can take half a day. If you're going to see an OB/GYN, sometimes they run late because they're delivering babies. Or....if you have to have a bunch of medical tests done. Or an MRI or whatever. I would just call in in the morning and say that you have an extended appointment and you'll be in around lunch.

We have to bring in "documentation" for practically anything besides calling off sick (unless it's 3 days in a row)

We had a kid get fired because he got tangled in a web. He was already on the chopping block. He said he had car trouble so they made him being in documentation from the garage. He had a written receipt from a small garage from getting his car worked on months before, and he fudged the date to make it the date he called off. It was a piss poor job and they could easily tell he fudged it. It ended up getting way out of control with other incidences connected to that one and the kid ended up getting the boot.

I'm afraid so I just take the whole day off and do something fun the rest of the day to make it worth it. Shopping, drinking, road trip, naps. That type of thing

OMG Megan I would hate working there. That's insane. Was he taking sick-time or just taking time off?

Battery died, or just say you have a stomach bug of sorts and just take the day off?

ETA I had to call out for a full day once because FH didn't realize there was a difference between regular dish soap and the dishwasher detergent. He didn't want to head out to the store so he just substituted regular dish soap for it. We both had to miss work that day to clean up the water and bubbles that flooded our small kitchen. It didn't help that our daughter thought it was the greatest thing ever so she kept trying to play in the kitchen.

We can only call in sick. Everything else needs pre approval except one emergency personal day a year. It's easiest just call call in sick anytime you need a day off. This guy was a moron though and was always abusing time so this was the last big thing he did to screw himself.

But yeah the way I see it, if I need to do something else or I'm sick with a case of the "FuckIts", I call off sick and that's it. I don't like to get into detail unless I have to

Best to stay as close to the truth as possible. Simply say, "you have some personal business that has to be taken care of." , or "somethings come up and you will be x hours late on x day" I have said this to an employer if I will be late like a half day or something. Just don't flat out lie, it's too hard to get out of. Don't make it a question, make it a statement. I've never had an employer inquire any further than that.

Best of luck @ your interview.

I think this is the trap people fall into. They feel like they need to justify why they're not at work and then if you suddenly stop with "I have an appointment and will be in at noon" people start to wonder why you're being so tightlipped. As long as it's allowed, I would just say "I have an appointment" and leave it at that. If people ask if you're okay you say, "yes, I am! Thank you for thinking of me!" and walk away. But.....for general reference, it's usually best just to say "I'm not coming in today" and leave it up to the employer to pursue asking what they need to know.

I agree with Janeen- and if anyone asks I would follow up and just say something about it's kinda personal and shrug it off.

I decided on to take FH lunch one day while I was on lunch and was late coming back. Told my boss I got pulled over and got a ticket. She totally believed it, but I just wanted more time with FH. HATED that job anyways!

I would just definitely just say "appointment" and leave it at that. We don't really have to divulge a lot of info. Im a salaried employee though, so idk if that matters
