DH and I just got our lot approved as a building lot (YAY!) and we're working to find the plans we want to build on it now. What would you want for your perfect house? DH and I just got our lot approved as a building lot (YAY!) and we're working to find the plans we want to build on it now.

What would you want for your perfect house? Do you have specific things you can't live without, maybe you wish your house/apartment had something different now, or you grew up with a certain layout or room that you can't imagine not having in the future?

I love hearing other ideas on this so I can make sure I'm not totally glossing over something because I just haven't thought of it yet!

Thanks

    - large bedrooms, master bedroom has to have a giant bathroom with separate jacuzzi tub and shower.

Square footage is definitely dependent on a few things- how much you want to spend furnishing it, how much time spent cleaning it, etc. We live in a "townhome" (a 2 story apartment) and tho we aren't OLD, we're not in our 20's and we hate having to go up and down the stairs. So we don't foresee a 2 story in our future!

I just spent the last hour or so going through my Pinterest board deleting houses than no longer fit out ideas (I started pinning about a year ago before we had real plans).

It's starting to feel real, and I can't wait to make some real decisions on all these ideas and dreams.

Oh, I like this topic today (as I stare down Irma!):

I want at least 4 bedrooms, preferably 5 (although 3 + a study would work too). 2-3 full bathrooms. Master suite with a ginormous walk-in closet, double vanity, and separate tub/shower (and preferably the toilet in separate little room so I can take my super long baths and not totally hog the entire bathroom). Second-floor laundry for sure. The kitchen needs to be ginormous, and I want an island, not with a sink or stovetop but just for chopping and prep (where I spend most of my time when I'm cooking). Space for a big dining room table, and an open floor plan. Two-car garage, space for a wet bar and a screened-in back porch so I can sit out there and not get eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Big backyard, nice size kitchen with a view to a living space (open concept), island in kitchen, master bathroom connected to master bedroom, walk in closet, laundry in house! Don't care where, but after not having in house laundry for like 7 years I'm ready for one!

I want an open floor plan, a beautiful master suite (with a walk in closet) and a nice big laundry room. FH wants a huge white kitchen with an island and a farm sink. We both really want a bit of land, like at least 5 acres.

Large living area. Huge master bedroom

And bath.huge shower in master bath.

Large kitchen with plenty of cabinet space and electrical outlets everywhere.

Don't know if you do outside lights at Christmas but if you do have electrical outlets so as to avoid excessive exposed cords.

    Double oven in kitchen

    Sink in utility/laundry room.

At least 2 bathrooms (just moved out of a place where 6 adults all shared 1 bathroom. 10/10 do not recomend), walk in pantry, first level laundry, big kitchen, big backyard/ dog run, fenced in yard

Oh, I would love to have gas heating and stove. We had that when I was growing up, and cooking with gas just makes more sense to me.

Also, many of the other things that were mentioned, but a mudroom would be something I'd add to my current home, or look for in our next home. You really don't think about all the little things that you can use outdoors and don't really have a place for indoors, or a place to dry your feet (and dogs' or kids' feet) without messing up the kitchen or whatever leads out to your backyard.

edit: A second bathroom would be great too! I assume most people look for at least 2-3 anyway.

We currently have 1 bathroom with a claw foot tub, and when I shower I have to hold the spout the whole time... any bathroom will be an upgrade for sure! With a real shower, and double vanities it will be like I'm in heaven!

Our must have was central air. But my mom also has central vac in her house, and let me tell you, it is so convenient! Especially the sweeper option where it's literally a little hole that sucks up that dirt you just swept off the floor!

Also multiple bathrooms, at least 2, for sure. Especially if you entertain!

And an attached garage (love mine! It's a godsend when you have crappy weather and a TON of groceries).

And a master bath attached to your bedroom, with both a tub and standing shower.

Oh my god, so jealous, I've always wanted to build! I could go on for days. Good luck!

Anything you may want in the future think about now! If you have a basement and don't finish it now and may in the future get a bathroom rough in! A basement will be much cheaper to finish later rather then while building. Our builders will charge about 30,000 for a finished basement but you can finish it outside for about ****. Think about the best layouts for resale nd try not too do anything TOO personal if your planning to sell later. Make sure to have real wood kitchen cabinets. and adding a bedroom adds about 10,000 for resale.

Our home will have about 1900 square feet, once we finish the basement it will add 1200 more. 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 bathrooms. Quarts countertops are great, low maintenance with the same look as granite. Do not use travertine, they need sealed often and overtime get holes in them.

Lots of indoor and outdoor living space! Also, a big enough dining room to host during the holidays!

I definitely want a large kitchen (to cook and host parties) and large backyard for my dogs to run around in. I also want a lot of good lighting because my house right now doesn't have a lot of good lighting. Oh and an open concept floor plan!

All designs we're considering have a formal dining room for holiday celebrations, and a spot that will fit a giant Christmas tree. DH's family is Jewish, and mine is Christian - so we plan that we will host Christmas each year so everyone can celebrate with us.

Central Air is definitely going to happen - but central vac - haven't even considered it until now!
