NWR: diaper raffle for a baby shower?

Private_User832, on October 18, 2016 at 7:09 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I just got invited to a baby shower for twins. They are doing a raffle that you get entered in if you bring diapers (aside from gifts), which was included on the invitation. I've never seen this before. Have you seen this before? Is this one of those things that's optional to participate in? Or "optional" with the premise that you're expected to be bringing diapers because everyone will be?

Almost every baby shower I've been to recently has done this. It is optional to participate in

I've heard of it before. They did it where I work when they threw a shower for a teacher whose wife was pregnant. It was mostly to help them stock up (many times it's diapers or wipes) because babies go through SO many at first, sometimes 12-20/day.

The last baby shower that I went to, the hosts included this. The "prize" was a wine basket. (I didn't bring diapers, mainly because I forgot.) I can't say if those who brought diapers also brought a gift, because the expecting couple asked that gifts be sent to their house prior to the shower.

I had this at my baby shower. & have seen it at many others.

Totally optional! Like MNA said, it's a way to help get stocked up on diapers. You don't have to participate.

I've seen these before. It's common, but totally optional. Only about 1/4-1/2 of the people brought diapers for the diaper raffle at the last baby shower we went to. (I usually would opt out but it was for DH's sister so we got them a giant box of diapers) I think baby shower etiquette is a bit more lax. than wedding related events although I still don't really like any "games" where you're asked to bring things or spend a dollar to guess the baby's birth date or weight or whatever.

    Its optional, but pretty common.

We actually had one at my goddaughter's shower.

I think its awesome. Babies go through SO many diapers and wipes...and if you win the raffle you get a fun prize! Smiley winking

Usually all the games are optional. At my sons baby shower I registered but my friends did a winner takes "all" which was when you came in you guessed how many blue jelly beans was in a container and at the end the winner(s) got a thing of all detergent and baby got all the money.

I've seen this at every baby shower I have been to. It's fun and a great way to collect diapers.
