Nurses, wearing engagement ring to work?

Private User, on September 13, 2012 at 7:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

I'm newly engaged and keep going back and forth on whether I should wear my engagement ring to work or not. I'm a mother baby nurse and am constantly washing my hands, putting on gloves, helping with breast feeding, touching babies, etc. My fiance was thoughtful enough to pick out a ring with a pretty flush center stone (see picture below). Im not too worried about scratching anyone or anything but am more concerned about it coming off with gloves, loosing it, or caring nasty germs home with me but I also don't want to take it off!

What do you other other nurses/healthcare workers do?

I am not a nurse but I work in the hospitals too. (Mother Baby actually!) And I found that my finger fits just snug enough not to come off in the gloves. I feel pretty confident that as long as I make sure my ring gets a healthy dollop of hand sanitizer every time I pump - before and after each room - it's clean enough until I can put gloves on.

Honestly I took a few gloves home and practiced to make sure that (a) it stayed on, (b) it didnt tear the gloves, and (c) I felt confident I wouldnt scratch myself of the babies.

    Hope that helped!

I am a nurse and I wear mine to work. It is second nature to check my hand and make sure my ring is on my hand still before I throw the glove away. I clean it after every shift. I am a med-surg nurse so I have no experience with babies but I have never scratched anyone with it.

    Former L&D nurse here.

I wore mine all the time. Even did vaginal exams with a sterile glove over my left hand. Smiley smile
