Number of bridesmaids? Small Party Question!

Hopeless Romantic, on February 1, 2017 at 1:29 AM Posted in Planning 0 24

I only have my sister and best friend standing by my side on my wedding day.

One of my coworkers said that having 0-2 bridesmaids makes the bride look like a loner.

Do you agree?

Lots of brides and grooms have smaller wedding parties, and some don't have one at all. Your number of bridesmaids does not determine if you are a "loner."

I had two and did not feel in the slightest like a loner. I think in places where it's more common for the bride to pay for bridesmaid dresses, parties tend to be smaller than in places where the bridesmaids are expected to buy them!

Pft do not listen to that coworker. You could have a zillion friends and not have a bridal party. If someone is judging you based upon having too small of a BP, they lead a very small life.

If I could have 2-3 I would! I'm only having 5 to not exclude my only female cousin and my little sister. Your coworker is rude!

How many bridesmaids one has is a personal choice. I know I wouldn't want anyone that wasn't truly by my side/close to me so don't just add bridesmaids to fill spots. I have 7 bridesmaid but that's mainly because I come from a big family. Ideally I wouldn't want to have more than 5 bc less bridesmaids is less drama & less money.

Here are a few reminders why less bridesmaids can be a good thing.

People get crazy ideas when it comes to weddings. My friend just got married and she had someone tell her that if she didn't spend 50k or more then it wasn't a real wedding. There's nothing wrong with having a small wedding party. Don't let anyone tell you that you're in the wrong or make you feel like a loner for doing what you want and having who you want in your wedding. It's better to have 2 people you love/are close to than it is to have to pick random people to fill spots and not be close with them

It doesn't make you look like a loner. It makes you look like a bride with two BMs -- nothing more, nothing less. There is absolutely no character judgment that can be gleaned from the size of a woman's bridal party. Honestly, some of the comments that come out of the woodwork when weddings are the topic make me wonder...

No. I don't have any bridesmaids. Your co-worker needs to STFU. Should people have bridesmaids just to look popular? When you ask someone to be a bridesmaid you are usually asking a lot from them financially. That is why I choose not to have any.

I only have 2, and I don't really give a rat's a$$ what everyone else thinks. My best friend and future step-daughter are standing up with me, and that is beautiful to me.

Then I guess a lot of brides all over the world are loners LOL. Seriously in many places 0-2 is the norm.

I'm having 2. I didn't want any more than that.

Maybe your coworker is upset you didn't ask her to be a bridesmaid so she resorted to trying to make you feel bad.
