A little about me, I'm Courtney, 27, and my fiance, Jess, is 24 (and looooooves to call me a cougar because its apparently hilarious lol), and our wedding is scheduled for March 23rd in Asheville, NC. (Where hasn't been determined yet, but we are looking at area parks). My slight OCD loves the date because not only is is 03.23.13, its also our third anniversary Smiley smile Love when things work out like that! I am not your avg bride in that I like things unconventional and unusual. I just picked out my dress, and it has feathers! I'll also most likely be wearing either blue or turquoise, no white for this bride! We will be doing most everything ourselves (flowers, planning, decor etc) to save money. My sister is a professional photographer and is bringing a few of her photog friends to help out, so that's covered.

That's all I can think of at the moment but ask me anything you want to know!

Welcome to WW!! Apologizing for saying average bride is not necessary!! If anyone is offended by what you wrote then they really need to put on their big girl panties.. I am an average/traditional bride. I like how you are thinking outside the box and doing your own thing. Can't wait to see your wedding unfold.

I think what Alisha meant is that all of us our unique, and no one is average or normal. Oh well.

    Welcome to WW!

I don't think she was indicating that people aren't unique by saying average, only that she was breaking the standard white or ivory dress modern normSmiley smile

I don't think any bride is "average" and I don't think any bride is "unique." Just by the law of averages, you will deviate from the average in some respect, and there will be someone who has done whatever you think of as unique. That being said, I didn't get offended by what I saw as an attempt to say you are more unusual than average. And I do second the recommendation to check out Offbeat Bride, which I found a great resource during our planning.

Thanks everyone! I really didn't mean to offend, I just thought it would be a more eye-catching title lol. And for those who may be interested, that won't be my dress after all (can't afford $350 by Jan 4th, which is when it would need to be ordered by!) but I have already found cheaper, just-as-fabulous alternatives! Welcome Courtney! I'm on my phone so I can't post links, but please don't buy from DHGate, they are a Chinese knock off site. You can click on my picture to go to o my profile where I have links to stories and pictures of the dress "quality" you are likely to get from them.

Jeni made a gorgeous purple feather dress herself, with a purple dress and boas I believe.

Thanks for letting me know @The Reenski, I will definitely look into that!

@Moira her site has been having issues lately but here is the facebook page! http://www.facebook.com/MetamorphosisPortraits she does work out of Hickory, but don't let that deter you, she does travel (and she'd love any excuse she can get to come to Asheville!)

    Love the dress!!!! Love feathers!

We are have a "traditional" yet "unconventional" wedding. All the parts of a traditional wedding is there, but we changed almost everything to reflect our personalities and who we are as a couple.

Word to the wise: don't share too many details with guests. My mother cringes every time I tell her something new we are doing, and my mother in law physically bites her tongue.... And they are actualky "supportive" parents. It can get frustrating at times. Plus, the guests will be more surprised if they don't know the details!

    Good luck planning!
