Not Having Select Parts of Ceremony

Symmone, on April 13, 2022 at 11:53 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 1 29
I am going thru the process of wondering if I need a flower girl for my wedding. I had one and I'm finding out they can't make the trip. I'm lost on what to do. Thoughts? Thanks.

You can totally skip the flower girl part . i didn't have one and i've seen other people skip it.

the other option if you're absolutely bent on having that part is now a days people do flower grandmas or flower dudes haha just something lighthearted and also could work if there's other people you wish to involve in the ceremony

A flower girl is not required at all! The only parts of the ceremony that are typically required are the declaration of intent, vows, and pronunciation of the married couple. Everything else - unity ceremonies, ring bearers, exchanging rings, walking down the aisle, bridesmaids, etc - is all totally optional.

They're optional. I'm not having ones since we have no nieces or nephews. You could get someone else to do it (like your MOH or grandma) but talk to them to make sure they're comfortable with it.

We're not doing a flower girl or ring bearer either. Totally optional!

A flowergirl is mainly for decor/cute factor. Many couples skip them. We don’t have kids in our circles who are the appropriate ages so we’re skipping them.

All the weddings I've been to actually haven't had flower girls, so I don't think you need to worry!

Is it that high a priority for you to have a flower girl? I've been to a few weddings in the last few years who didn't have one. It didn't make the weddings any less enjoyable. If you really want one, then I would check with friends or relatives whose little girls you enjoy having around. If it's not that high a priority, however, then I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's your wedding at the end of the day.

We skipped having a flower girl because the only person we really wanted would have been my husband's niece (Age 6) who was unable to attend due to COVID. Like others have said, you could have someone else step in to toss flowers instead. Both are fairly common alternatives. I did not feel like something was missing by not having a flower girl. No regrets with skipping it.

As for other parts of the ceremony, very little is actually required for a legal ceremony (swearing that you are who you say you are and are entering into the marriage in good faith, mostly). Religious ceremonies have a longer list of required elements that are usually determined by your officiant and/or specific religious denomination. EVERYTHING ELSE is optional. A lot of "traditions" like bridesmaids/groomsmen, being escorted down the aisle, garter toss/bouquet toss, etc. are being reconsidered these days according to what the couple getting married actually wants to include.

There is a funny video of a flower dude that does amazing interpretive dance along the aisle.. I have flower girls then learned they can’t throw anything esp not flower petals 🤦🏽‍♀️ Read the fine print ladies or you may end up with a venue where everything is forbidden- lesson learned.

Same girl! And debating having a ring bearer just because we weren’t going to be having kids at the wedding.

Well I am doing the same. No kid. All my kids are adults now so. I have a ring bearer. Maybe I'll just have him to the flowers instead of the rings. What are your colors?

Our flower girl couldn't make it so our 40 something friend (very very tall and very funny) did it instead and it was hillarious.

I’m not having one, especially since it’s a destination wedding and most things aren’t traditional when having a destination wedding. Also many women are having their aisle already decorated.
