I have a huge wedding party of 11 bridesmaids and flower girls. The hotel room is small this is where we’re getting ready. My photographer said I should consider forgoing the getting ready photos due to not having room and trying to get 12 girls ready are the getting ready photos a must have I will be changing into my dress at the lakehouse so lll be getting photos of that

Getting ready photos are absolutely not a must and also a very new trend. They're also usually taken as posed shots after the girls already have their makeup done. They can be cute, but it's also not like these are the photos you hang up in your house. I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm just going to have someone with the best iPhone camera take photos that way! Saves money on needing extra time with the photographer too. I agree with Hannah, they're not photos that you hang up or really use anywhere so they're just fun photos to have and therefore don't really need the professional touch

They are a recent Pinterest/Instagram trend. A number of brides don’t have professional getting ready photos. If anything, they might be taken on the phone if at all. Plus you won’t have them on display.

I'm not having getting ready photos either. Like others have said, they're usually staged. I'm spending a lot on a photographer and only want pictures of the things I want to look at, like the wedding itself. I think pictures getting ready pictures on a phone will be perfectly fine.

Echoing the "whoever has the best iPhone camera" plan for getting ready photos. I don't have any must-have photo ideas that require a professional, and I'd rather the time I'm paying for a professional to be put towards more fun shots with everyone at the end of the night.

For a party that big, I wouldn't bother with getting ready pics, either. Having that many people in one small spot ready to go in a short amount of time is already screaming disaster. I only had four bridesmaids, and even I largely skipped getting ready pics. The few we took were more like "finish getting ready" pics, and they were pretty much all staged. One of my friends helped me put on my shoes (because I couldn't see them under my skirt), and then there were some of the bridesmaids inspecting little things about the dress here and there.

Super helpful reading all the comments because I was thinking of not doing getting ready pics and just staging them when we get to the venue to get dressed!

As others have mentioned, getting ready photos are usually very staged - you can bring a lipstick or little makeup brush to pretend like you're applying it at the lake house where you'll be changing into your dress

I will only have photos of me getting into my dress. I wouldn’t worry too much about getting ready photos

I personally think you will regret not having at least some getting ready pictures. If the photographer doesn't feel comfortable doing it, I would suggest having one of the girls that'll be there who will get ready quick or someone else you trust like a mother, grandmother, niece, etc. take pictures on the phone with the best camera and you can edit them if you feel they need to be or you can just have them uploaded to the weddingwire for guest app or just sent to you. The getting ready photos are intimate, candid photos that show a lot about the brides team.

I don't think you should worry about it. Some brides don't even have a bridal entourage. Your photographer can still get pictures of you getting makeup/ hair done, your invitation suite, dress, jewelry, etc. You'll be happy for the quieter moments. Often the group photos are staged elsewhere for space. I also think staged pics of women in robes on a bed are cringe-worthy and product promotion-- just my opinion.

I have been debating about this the past whole day! My goodness! I’m glad that people agree with the best iPhone camera idea! I’ve been arguing with my family on this! Photographers are expensive as they are so, I don’t really care for getting ready pictures as well. But good to know that people feel the same way!

My family from my wedding party will be taking pictures of me getting and taking pics. I am trying to find a spot to take pictures for so looking at hotel with a great view. But the cost for a hotel maybe too much and now I will see if I can use my venue to use the outside be need to a back drop to move one of them to outside.

Hi ! I didn't have getting ready photos at all. My photographer had a 9h work day and I prefered having him during the party rather than with me having no make-up on ;-) With my bride's maids we took some pictures ourselves :-)

I’m not having any getting ready photos … honestly I think it’s silly … the only thing I would like though is a beautiful picture of my dress hanging up before I put it on and stuff and maybe like my ring next to my bouquet … little stuff like that lol

Also we only hired a photographer for 4 hours so she will be there from 3:30-7:30 … She will miss the cake cutting and the sparkler exit but my husbands best man is a professional photographer and he will snap a few pictures of us … We just didn’t want him doing it the whole time since he was in the wedding lol!
