Not a wedding website, but a wedding Facebook page?

Barklarich, on September 26, 2014 at 7:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I don't think a wedding website will be necessary. Would it be too cheep looking to have a Wedding Facebook page? Of course that's not how I'm going to send out the invitations, and I'm still going to mail STDs and RSVPs through the mail. But while I was researching, I found it might be a good idea to have info about updates or for hotel info for out of town guest and make it really easy to RSVP.

What do y'all think? Yey or ney?

Eeeeeh.... depends on the crowd... plus would it be made on your FB account? would all FB be able to see it and not all FB friends are invited? I can see it causing trouble is all. My wedding website was super easy to make and I included the URL on my STD so people could see it.

I vote for the wedding website simply because the tabs make it easier for guests to navigate to find the specific info they're looking for (venue, reception, FAQs, registry, etc.). However, if you go the Facebook route, do a secret Facebook GROUP so the only people who can see it are your guests (the people you add to the group).

I did a secret FB group primarily to communicate with my out of town guests. I pinned a welcome post at the top that includes the url to our wedding website.

I am not one to raise my eyebrow at most things (honeymoon fund, registry on invite etc), but I would find it odd.

I think it would be the same but with a website you can make it more personal. You could create an private event on FB and link to your website vise versa.

I have a wedding website/blog as well as a "secret" Facebook group that you can only find if you were added by FH or myself. I use the Facebook group for quick updates or when I am looking for feedback. For example, when FH and I had our tasting and set our menu I asked if anyone had any allergies. The majority of our guests are on Facebook and those that are not I or FH can call or text. But I wouldn't use Facebook to send invitations or anything like that. An added bonus is that I can post updates to the group so that people not invited to the wedding don't have to hear about details that they probably have no interest in hearing.

I am really planning on not having a website. I had never heard of them until WW and I plan on doing things the old fashion way with paper invites and directions, etc IN the invite. Same thing with STD's, never really heard of those until here. I did send address requests to lots of cousins on FB and got replies with them. I did include our wedding date in them. Website seems like an unnecessary headache to me.

I have a "secret" FB update group for my close friends and family, but WW provides us with a free website....why not take advantage of it?

If that's what you want to do - both a website and facebook are free and easy to create and manage. You could do the exact same things and more with a wedding website, plus it's a lot more organized on a website than a facebook page, but that's just my opinion. I agree with Della, I might find a wedding facebook page/group a little odd, especially considering how popular wedding websites are I'd wonder why you didn't go that route instead. But if FB works for you and that's how you connect with the majority of your guests, go for it.
