Not a typical Bachelorette party~

Nicky Henderson Sauls, on November 11, 2010 at 3:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

I don't want to do the typical bar hopping, etc for my bachelorette party....for one because it's expensive to drink in Charleston & another is because I have a couple of gals that don't drink & I've been there not being the one drinking & it isn't quite as fun....I was thinking about a 'scavenger hunt' type thing...getting a bridal suite and having alcohol AVAILABLE but not the only thing going on.

I need some ideas!!! I want to stay in Charleston if at all possible...anyone from around here?!

I'm trying to avoid the typical bar hopping thing as well. I live in charlotte, and there's a lounge here that rents private rooms with private bowling alley lanes. We can have alcohol if we want, but it won't be the prime entertainment. They also serve pizza and other snacks. So that's what I'm thinking about. That, or maybe just relaxing in a rented room with a bunch of chick flics and some store bought beer and wine coolers, etc.

We did karaoke for mine and people could have alcohol if they wanted. It wasn't really a big drinking thing. I and a couple girls drank a little but not enough to even get buzzed.

I think that there is a ton of stuff you can do in Charleston that doesn't revolve around drinking. I think a nice dinner with your girlfriends would be a lot of fun - get dressed up and hit someplace like High Cotton or Slightly North of Broad.

I think you could do any tourist type thing in the city too - a ghost tour or historical tour. Anything where you could spend time with your girlfriends would make for a great bachelorette party!

By scavenger hunt do you mean a game type thing where you divide up into teams?

We did go to a bar for part of mine, but the first part was at one of those paint-your-own-pottery places--you know, where they give you a blank pottery thing and you paint it? My sister planned that and to be honest, I was a little skeptical at first, but it turned out to be AWESOME! My bridesmaids all painted a "slice" on a big platter for me, which I use for pizza now. And my sister brought sangria and hummus, and a mixtape Smiley smile It was such a good time! After that we went to a snazzy pizza place (Pi in St. Louis) and to a dueling piano bar...and then I don't remember, LOL!

I'm not in Charleston, but I'm looking for a non-alcoholic Bach party too. However, I live in Vegas...ugh. I think we're going to do a spa day at home, since I know neither of my bms can really afford to do something super nice or anything so we are going to get our nails done, but we're going to do a hair treatment on each other, and do facials and watch chick flicks, it should be fun!

Yes ma'am! I was in a wedding where he lingerie shower was turned into a type of scavenger hunt with teams with questions leading us around the resort but all the questions were about how well you knew the bride! It was so much fun! I wish I could remember more about it. Each little 'station' had huge glasses or a kiddy float we had to blow up...then the first one back to the room with all the 'goodies' won! It made it easier for the girls that didn't know each other to meet and not be so worried about meeting each other!

I once played a scavenger type game that we called Picture Panic. Basically, each team had a list of things that they had to do and take a picture of - for example, they had to each stand in a fountain and take a picture or they had to find a street sign that contained a name of one of the members in the group and they had to take a picture with it. You could do something like that but use info about the bride (like, take a picture at the bride's favorite restaurant or find a street sign that has the bride's new or old name in it).

I have a friend who does a scavenger hunt for her birthday every year. She lives in Ocean Beach (San Diego). It's a lot of fun! I've never been to Charleston, but I am sure you have a main "drag" where you can center the whole thing around. What my friend does is have a list of things to find. Some are like JMN says where your group has to take pictures of things, with the whole group or just one member or all girls, etc… She also has some questions about her to answer. Then a bunch of pictures that she has taken and you have to locate where they are and take a pic with your group. They are really obscure pics, like one of a spray painted stencil by the beach or a really small logo on a store front (only showing a small part of it). Distinguishable, but definitely hard to find sometimes. Then we all meet up at a bar and she will tally the results and announce the winning team. Super fun and she keeps the hunt to one street, about 3-4 blocks. We all wear silly hats or a wig, too!

My friend got married when she was 18 so we were unable to do the bar thing so we did a scavenger hunt! It was a lot of fun and by far the best bachelorette party I've ever been to!

I agree that a ghost tour in Charleston would be fun. But I'm a paranormal nerd, so I know I'd like that sort of thing.

Not sure if you would be interested in this, but my girls and I are going to take a pole dancing class. I've never done it, but a friend of mine has and said she had a great time. I know most cities offer these types of classes. We got our for $200 for 2 hours and 20 people.

I'm hoping to do a spa party for my bachelorette party. But I don't want it to be super expensive. I think I've found a place that has a jacuzzi and maybe a steam room or sauna. I'm hoping we can do a base fee to hang out in the spa and then my BMs and I can get mani/pedis, along with anyone else who wants one. Or maybe facials for everyone! Who knows.
