Hey folks,

The traditional things are lovely and timeless but I love the folks who take a non-traditional route! What are some of the non-traditional aspects of your wedding? I'd love to hear (well read) about it!

I'm mixing traditional and non-traditional but I think my biggest non-traditional is that FH and I are walking down the aisle together.

    We had a sword fight.

    Non-traditional 1

We also skipped bouquet/garter toss, I didn't take his name, I had a bridesman, he had two groomswomen, I walked down the aisle to a theme from Harry Potter, we recessed to an instrumental of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame", our vows referenced our sports teams heavily... we made it an Us thing, in the context of a wedding.

Love this topic! Were going mostly non-traditional. We're eloping (+mom), getting married on a Tuesday, I'm wearing a knee length blush Calvin Klein dress, No ones walking us down the aisle, no parent/child dances, no DJ, etc, Not taking his last name.

It might be easier to list the traditional things we are keeping - cutting the cake, champagne toast, no first look.

We did a a mix of both traditional and non-traditional. Some of the non-traditional things... we are a same sex couple, both of our parents walked both of us down the aisle, we both had bridesmen, our bridal party members walked down the aisle individually, we did a unity puzzle instead of the over used sand or water ceremony, we did not have a flower girl or ring bearer, we did not do a bouquet or garter toss, & neither of us wore white (I wore blush and she wore ivory). This is all I can remember at the moment.

We are doing pics before the ceremony (first look) and then doing just the cocktail hour part of a reception - but we are doing it for 4 1/2 hours!

    Just a fun party!

If you don't want to do a father daughter dance you don't have to! My father passed away and so we are not doing a father daughter dance but are doing a mother son one for my husband and his mom. I don't think they need to be even!

OMG I love this!!!! If we weren't jumping the broom I would steal this idea! I've never heard of this before, I absolutely love it. Maybe I'll just reserve it for us to do with the kids on our own time after the wedding.

Isn't it fun?! We wanted to do some type of unity ceremony, but I wanted something unique. Puzzles hold a special place in our relationship, so this was so perfect! We did both of our first names, our new last name, and our wedding date. We have it framed in our home now!

Your kids would love to do this with you guys!

Some of these things that people are labeling as non-traditional are actually traditions. They just aren't current American traditions.

I think the only truly non-traditional thing that I am doing is a coconut flavored cutting cake and variously flavored cupcakes, and having an eclectic bridal party. Maybe walking down the aisle unescorted, but I'm sure that's tradition somewhere on the planet, and perhaps the groom and I wearing some magpie accessories . Some other things that I am doing that people might consider untraditional(even though they aren't) are: wearing a blue dress, doing a handfasting, and having a cake and punch reception.

    No veil

We're doing a first look (for timing purposes honestly)

We're incorporating a hand blessing into our ceremony

    Writing our own vows

Our close friend is marrying us

Mom is walking me down the aisle & having mother/daughter dance

Not having a flower girl or ring bearer

Not including a garter or bouquet toss

No boutonnières except for the groom
