Non traditional ceremony songs?

Future Mrs. Bowman, on April 30, 2011 at 6:04 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I am not really looking to walk down the aisle to anything traditional.....but I am a little confused how many songs one needs to pick our for the ceremony. And really how long will the songs be playing during the ceremony.I wanted to walk down the aisle to Eric Claptons Wonderful Tonight but my DJ said it is only about a 30 second bit of song you walk to.Should I just go traditional to avoid cutting a song into pieces? Bah I have no clue haha

If you get an instrumental version of a song... then it doesn't really matter where they cut it, because they won't me in the middle of a lyric.

I'm walking down to an instrumental version of Isn't She Lovely… you can walk down to whatever you want. AND~ if you can't find an instrumental version have your DJ seek out a Kareoke version. If he's a digital DJ he should be able to mute any track with vocals or backup singers.

Do you have to pick more than one song for a ceremony?

You'll want at least two… one for you and one for everyone else. Or you can break it up further and have one for the groom & parents, one for bridal party, one for the bride.

Yes you will need multiple songs- for before things get started.... as the family and wedding party enter.... then your entrance.... the recessional.... any music you elect to include during the ceremony....

Your musicians should be able to work with the sheet music and cut/time it appropriately for your walk. Good luck!

I think you need to go back to your DJ and work with him. It's not about "how much" of a song he plays... it's about how he can make your day special. You're not there to make his life easy. You're paying him good money (I assume) to do the things you need for your wedding. Wonderful Tonight is one of my personal favorites and... if I had a bride who wanted to walk down to it, I would work it out with her to figure out the timing, make sure the song is not too long, not too short... and if it came down to it... just fade out of it. There's nothing wrong with cutting a song short. Perhaps he could edit the bridge and just play the most meaningful part of the song? And if not, just walk down the aisle R E A L L Y... S L O W. Its your wedding, so carpe diem and have fun!

Someone mentioned the song they play while your party walks down and then they change it to the song you will walk down to, but you may want to consider some songs playing when guests arrive and are being seated and waiting for it to start. You don't have to do this, but many people do so just can idea.

I was thinking of having some nice songs like "At Last", "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", "Unforgettable", etc for when guest are coming in. Then having some classical music for bridal party, my entrance, etc.

I love Eric Clapton in all his forms. We are also doing very untraditional songs. The most traditional we are doing is "At Last".

Our Prelude song, which will be played when the FH and BM walk in is Santana's "Victory Won" and "Love of My Life".

My entrance song is my eldest daughter singing Etta James' "At Last."

A memorial song is being performed by my daughter and his son...Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here".

Our Exit Song is "Follow You FOllow Me" Genesis

Introduction song is "Truckin" Grateful Dead and Johnnie Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now".

Our First Dance is "In Your Eyes" Peter Gabriel

We are cutting the cake to Sonny& CHer's "I Got You Babe"

    Good luck with your list.

Just met with my dj last night regarding this!

For the ceremony, you can choose to have songs played for grandparents/parents, bridal party, and yourself. During the ceremony you may want to choose a song for your unity candle/sand ceremony. You'll also need to pick a song for your exit.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm going with the following as of now:

Wedding Party: The Luckiest - Ben Folds (instrumental)

My entrance: Cannon in D (piano version)

Sand ceremony: From This Moment - (piano instrumental)

    Exit: It's A Beautiful Day - U2

For our exit my dj has a REALLY funny one that I want, but I don't know if it will go over well w/the elders. It's traditional organ recession music, then you hear a record scratch and "Another One Bites The Dust" is played. Smiley smile
