Non-traditional Ceremony Reading - Any ideas?

AlexMolloy, on June 3, 2013 at 10:34 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

Hello Ladies!

My FI and I are trying to think of what we want as a ceremony reading and are having a hard time finding something. We are getting married on a dock and do not attend church regularly so we would like to not have something from the Bible. The one we both really like is EE Cummings - I Carry Your Heart but we would like to have some more options before we decide.

Does anyone have any readings that are romantic, non-traditional and not too sappy?

My step-father will be reading "blessing of the hands" For me it's a tear jerker, and I don't think it has anything to do with the Bible.

We are using some readings from this site...

Blessing of the Hands is one of them....There are alot of options for traditional vows/readings as well as non-traditional. There are poems, quotes, all sorts of things.

We used parts of "I Like You" by Sandol Stoddard Walburg.

My brother, who is an elementary school teacher, as is his wife, use parts of "Oh the places you'll go" by Dr Seuss.

We are doing The Key to Love and The Art of Marriage, not religious at all. I'm sure you can Google them.
