What are some non traditional catering ideas you all had or would love at someone else's wedding? In the area we are having the wedding, there is not a ton of traditional catering options, and we don't want to pay an arm and a leg for travel fees. We have found an amazing taco truck that we are strongly considering but they don't have an option for anything for cocktail hour. We have restaurants in the area that cater but it's mostly BBQ places (which we are very picky about BBQ and they all suck lol) or places like Cracker Barrel or little diners. Idk what to do!!

What if you all did non perishable foods, like gourmet popcorn, pumpkin themed treats etc...or call the nearest upscale grocery store. I understand this problem as we are trying to host a welcome reception in the middle of nowhere and are struggling to find something that works.

Or post about this on the FB page https://www.facebook.com/places/Things-to-do-in-Wichita-Falls-Texas/112101562139635/

If you are hiring your dad's friend, make sure there's a contract.

No, he was not going to be invited as a guest. We are only having family and our bridal party. Our venue only seats 120 for the ceremony and we are already at that number with just family. I was completely surprised by it, but would definitely get a contract.

I went to a wedding that only had one food truck but they had a popcorn bar and lots of yard games. So people went and ordered their food and paced themselves out. It went pretty well. There was a line but it was never huge. And the food was AMAZING! I had lobster mac and cheese and loved it!

He's a professional caterer, not just a random friend that can cook.

If he's offering and has the ability to do a good job, it seems like the perfect solution!! I vote yes!

Thanks y'all! I definitely wouldn't expect a guest to do it, but he knew we only planned to invite family and offered. And he does a huge variety of foods, so now we would actually have a bunch of options to choose from!

Okay we are 95% sure we are going with this caterer. That being said, he can literally do anything. His specialities range from mexican food to steaks or burgers or seafood, literally anything. We originally planned on tacos but we also love steaks or grilled chicken as well. Our venue is very casual as is the look of our wedding (groom is wearing jeans with a button up shirt and a vest and tie with his cowboy hat and cowboy boots). We don't want to have a super fancy feast with a casual wedding. Thoughts? I think we are torn between mexican or Steak and chicken and would love to hear your ideas for sides and appetizer stations.

He makes amazing guac and salsa. And I'm always a sucker for mexican. I was discussing with my MOH and she said chicken and steak would be nice.

Maybe still have the Taco truck and have your dad's friend do some other hand held food & the appetizers? Semi - related I went on a tasting with a food budget of $2k and after eating the food we agreed to almost double that just so we can get all the food we like in there. FOOD IS IMPORTANT! my FMIL still remember the awful food at her sister's wedding 35 yrs ago

Just to see if you can find anything, I'd throw up a project on Thumbtack and see if you can find any caterers that you weren't able to find otherwise. You may not get anything, you may hit gold. But it costs you nothing to do it, so why not?

I tried thumbtack because that's how I found a dj and makeup artist as well as my photographer. Unfortunately there's nada for catering in my area.
