Non secular wedding ceremony timeline

Michelle, on May 7, 2020 at 10:12 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 10
Anyone having a non secular wedding? I am at a loss of what to include but I don’t want the ceremony to be five minutes. I would like to include a unity candle but we are outdoors so I don’t think it would work out if windy. I don’t have any readings in mind to include. What does your ceremony timeline look like?

We did a processional, giving away the bride, moment of silence for guests there in spirit, prayer, short speech about marriage, reading from I Corinthians, declaration of intent, vows, rings, unity candle with mothers, traditional Irish blessing, pronouncement, kiss, recessional. It took about 25-30 min. The candle did go out after a few minutes in the wind but the officiant was standing in front of it so no one could see it but us. Plus it was so close to the end of the ceremony I’m sure no one noticed or cared. I had considered getting a hurricane to put over the candle after it was lit but didn’t want to spend more money. But that could be an option.

Our ceremony was about 20 minutes, which honestly worked out fine.

I would ask your officiant what the timeline looks like. We wrote our ceremony with my friend and we had processional, I walked down, opening, story of us, reading, handfast, vows, rings, closing and kiss. I think ours was around 25 mins. There’s lots of resources online that give structures of all different types of ceremonies to give you an idea of the content and length that’s common.

Did you try any open ended hurricanes over the candles? I looked into it but not sure. Maybe I will do it.

Nvm just saw you considered it. Yes it’s more money! Lol. Maybe we will do it at the end. As long as it’s list for a second.

If I had been in state I would have probably just ordered the hurricane. But it had to be a certain size and I was traveling by plane so it was just one more thing and I was over my limit with stuff and money and patience lol. But yes it was easy to light and stayed lit long enough for its purpose.

Ours was non-secular. We did the processional, my husband's uncle was our officiant and said some beautiful things about us as a couple and marriage and such. We did our own vows. Said the legal pronouncement stuff, and then did the recessional. It was all pretty short. I think the whole thing took about 15 minutes.

15-20 min would be perfect! Ours is more so spiritual rather than religious. I think ours would be something like this, kinda following Mrs. S above:
    -Processional
-Giving away the bride-Moment of silence (great idea, it would honor our grandparents no longer with us)-Welcome and short story about us, words of wisdom/love-One reading about love and unity....not sure what yet or who would read-Rings and blessings-Vow/Declaration of intent-Unity candle-Closing
That should be about 15-20 min. Thanks all!!!
