Neither FH or I are really practicing members of any religion. He was baptized Catholic and I was baptized as a Methodist, but neither of use have set foot in a church for years. Now that it's time to start looking for ceremony venues, I'm not really sure where to start. I'm sure one of the local Methodist churches would have us, (probably a catholic church too? I'm not very well versed in their rules) but a church just seems awkward for us. My sister was married in our parents back yard (an idea fh and I both abhor) by a preacher from her hubby's church. I'm sure there are a zillion non-religious options, but I'm not sure where to start. And who do you get to officiate, if you don't really want religion in the ceremony? What did you do for a low or no religion wedding?

Our wedding was definately not non religious but I'm sure that a similar venue would be perfect for a non religious ceremony. We got married in a park with my FIL as the officiant. Having an outdoor wedding is a very good option.

It's up to you both and if you're both non-religious types (like me and FH) find a good officiant, JoP that fits you both and a non-religious venue. Non-denominational chapels are great. The ones I found in my neck of the woods are budget friendly and can be great for small/intimate weddings.

    Didn't read all posts....

but we are getting married at the same place as our reception venue. Good weather permitting we will be married outside, bad weather will be inside in a separate room from the reception.
