Non-alcoholic reception drink suggestions (dont worry, its open bar)

Harts&Bows, on June 7, 2017 at 4:44 PM Posted in Planning 0 16

Hi All, our venue is taking care of ordering beer/wine for our wedding (no hard liquor allowed at the venue - its a winery). They told us to get our own non-alcoholic beverages. Our wedding is small (looking like 40-45 attendees) so we aren't planning on a ton of options. FH and I dont drink soda so im not sure what to get. We'll have sparkling and flat water, but what else is considered "normal" as far as options for those who don't want an alcoholic beverage? This is for after dinner. We will have iced tea and lemonade up until then but the caterers will be taking that with them after dinner. Kids, too. We will have about 10 kids in attendance. Thanks for your help!!

ETA added note about dinner options for clarification

It depends on your group but coke and a diet soda option would be good starters. Maybe an iced tea or lemonade too?

I'd say a cola and something like Sprite are fine, maybe also diet cola if you know your guests would want that. And then if there's iced tea and lemonade offered earlier in the night, I'd get more of that so nobody has to switch drinks halfway through.

Coke and Diet Coke and Sprite. I think you can get away with just that the other non-alcoholic options you mentioned.

Cranberry juice and soda water was the non-alcoholic fave at our wedding! we also had ginger beer as part of our signature cocktail (Dark and Stormy) so some folks were opting for just the ginger without the rum.

Coffee and some fun flavored syrups? You can buy them at the grocery store.

Coke or Pepsi, diet coke or diet Pepsi, sprite. And I would do lemonade after dinner as well. A lot of parents don't like their kids to have soda, so lemonade will give them an option other than water.

Hah thanks guys. You have some great ideas. We'll probably stick to the basics. It's an outside venue so we are limited to what is in a bottle/can already. Definitely agree on the basic sodas, even though we don't drink it. Glad to hear Coke/Diet Coke/Sprite should be sufficient. We have a small group so I'm loathe to end up buying 24+ of each of 6 things and end up with a ton of leftovers that we won't drink. Smiley smile

@Amanda you mentioned juice. Can you offer suggestions? I don't drink juice either =/ Sorry - I'm lame in the drinks category. It's pretty much just water, tea, coffee, and sometimes and Arnold palmer for me (and beer and wine).

I would loooove to do coffee but we have no way to keep coffee warm and in bulk for people since the caterers will be leaving after dinner and it's an outdoor venue (in an oak grove). I spoke with my mom about it and she thought it didn't make sense to have the caterers stay just to serve coffee.

Unless you're having a soda free wedding like one of our special users... I'd do coke, Diet Coke, sprite, water, iced tea and lemonade

Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, iced tea, lemonade, and grenadine for Shirley Temples (can be made with Sprite even if traditionally made with ginger ale but you can grab a bit of that too).

I'd also suggest sparkling grape juice for toasting (or reg grape juice), especially for kids and those who don't drink.
