Nobody is using my registry.

Danielle, on May 10, 2016 at 4:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

Everyone kept telling me how important it was for me to get my registry in order, so I created one at BB&B with very practical items/items with varying prices/nothing too high.

My wedding shower is this coming weekend and everyone was asking for my registry. According to my registry today, only 3 out of 30 items have been marked off as "purchased" which means that we may end up with doubles if not triples of certain items. I'm sort of confused that everyone was so keen on me registering but nobody is actually really using my registry. Is this normal/ did this happen to you?

I'm already a little anxious about the shower and opening presents in front of so many people and receiving gifts as i'm always one to feel fairly guilty about getting anything. I'm also worried that if people accidentally double-gifted then THEY will feel embarrassed or feel bad.

What should I say if I open 2 or even 3 of the same thing as to smooth the situation over?

Thanks in advance!

Say thank you! Deal with it privately and speak with the store on returning.

Sometimes people buy items without checking them off.

Let me guess, you are registered at Target lol. That thing never works!

If you have overlapping gifts just say thank you and deal with it later. It's not the end of the world.

Honestly alot of people buy gifts on the way to the shower, so I wouldn't get too worried. Also, some people could be buying you gift cards to the store you're registered at? Or people have forgotten to have your registry scanned at the store and you'll get multiples. But hey, your're getting gifts Smiley smile

If your shower is this weekend, a lot people still might go to BBB and buy their gifts this week/the day of the shower.

Oh and stop looking at your registry, you'll just make yourself crazy...and you'll kill the surprise of opening up the gifts if you already know exactly what was purchased off your registry!

Stuff really started coming off my registry the Friday night and Saturday before my shower (which was on a Sunday). I only had duplicates of 2 things, because people had looked at my registry for ideas but made the purchases somewhere else or didn't buy that exact item so it didn't get marked off. It was not a big deal. I wrote my thank you notes as if I was keeping everything, so nobody knows if their item was the one that was exchanged. Then I exchanged my duplicates and put the credits towards the best sheets I have ever owned.

One of my friends baby registry was not checking off items as they were bought - 11 umbrella strollers that were on sale the week of the shower - CHECK.

Just simile and thank them and exchange whatever you need to - no biggie at all!

Literally only 1 person from DHs side bought from the registry for my shower. Everyone else bought me random stuff that I either already owned or didn't want/need (thus why it wasn't on the registry). I ended up with a ton of stuff we had no clue what to do with and returned what we could (sadly I didn't get any receipts) and sold the rest on ebay or saved it to regift. Was it what I hoped? No. But I had a fun day and did get some stuff I loved (both from the registry and not) from my side. So just try to act happy with whatever you open and just have a fun day with your family and friends. And if you do get multiples, just laugh it off and make a joke about never ever running out of glasses (or whatever the case may be).

Maybe people are waiting until Friday since its most likely their pay/shopping day.

Sometimes ppl buy stuff off your registry without checking them off, meaning they go into the store buy it and don't apply it to the registry. They may also buy you the same thing somewhere else (usually bc it's cheaper elsewhere or they have a credit card for the other store). I've done it before. Also like @patches said many people want buy your gift until the day before or the morning of the shower.

Also BBB has a great return policy for wedding/shower gifts. So you can always exchange it.

People usually buy the gift the day before or the day of. I also noticed that, at least with my baby registry, people would rather pick out their own gifts. We got a ton of clothes and hardly anything we registered for. But I am super thankful for what we did receive!

I am another person who typically buys a shower gift the day before. I'm betting you'll see a lot more activity at the end of the week.

Same thing happened to me - just a few purchases on the registry until the couple days before my shower, then a ton were purchased.

If you do happen to get doubles, then like the other ladies said, just be grateful, and exchange them later.

I never buy registry gifts until the day of the event. Bad procrastinator. And when Im really in a rush, i just grab a gift card for the store with the registry. Sounds like you are stressing yourself over gifts. Relax. If there are duplicate gifts, exchange them. Easy peasy!

Don't forget the people who are last minute shoppers. You may find more of your registry items bought the day before or even the day of your shower.
